Apologies for the photos but once again the image uploader here has failed me. I'm too lazy to have a proper photo shoot with any of my watches anyway, so here's the Zodiac page.
I've been coming back to this for a while and finally pulled the trigger. There's a lot of relief because it's so comfortable I can see it getting plenty of wear. Small things may amuse small minds but who cares. I just sit here and watch the little red dot, twisting my wrist around to see the light catching all the discs and details. The only thing I'm worried about is exactly how much abuse and fluid it can take from a small child at 100m rating so I need to do some reading there.
The mystery dial refers to the way the hands and second (red dot) are seemingly floating via transparent discs. The dial itself has a lot of quality intricacies with a slight roulette wheel style slant to the ring with flat markers jutting out that give it an enticing depth and, to my mind, very good symmetry and colour balance with little red touches here and there.
The dimensions don't quite tell the story because the unusual case shape that shows quite a lot of metal by angling up and in towards the dial. It may only be 12mm thick, but that's 12mm of metal thick. It's almost what I would call Rank Arena-shaped like an old TV, which make it seem huge but the dial itself is sensibly-sized. This was what made me apprehensive. As it turns out, it's quite manageable at 45mm lug to lug, yet comfortable because of a curved back and good bracelet that tapers from 30mm to 20mm. Nonetheless there is a lot of metal and sapphire so it is heavy at 191g.
