We have two special, educational presentations planned for this week, and we hope you can join us for them!

On Wednesday, March 8, at 6 p.m. in the Learning Lab at the Willennar Genealogy Center, we will celebrate Women’s History Month with a presentation on women’s suffrage by local author Sharon Zonker.

On Saturday, March 11, we will hold a screening and discussion on the Frontline documentary “Being Mortal,” in partnership with DeKalb Health’s Home Health and Hospice. The presentation will be 2-4 p.m. in the Close Community Room. The Being Mortal Project is a national dialogue about end-of- life-care underwritten by the John and Wuana Harmon Foundation and the Hospice Foundation of America. Here’s what else is happening around the library campus during the week of March 6-11:

Neon Flix: We will work on the premiere of our movie. Neon Flix is for teens in sixth through twelfth grades. Monday, March 6, 5-7 p.m., Teen Library.

Pokemon Club: Pokemon enthusiasts in grades 6-12 are invited to bring their cards to the teen library every Tuesday and battle. Participants will go home with all their cards, as trading is not encouraged.  Pokemon club is free and no sign up is required. Tuesday, March 7, 4-5 p.m., Teen Library.

Drop-In Storytime Enrichment Class: EPL Storytime Enrichment Classes are a fantastic opportunity for children to access a world of creativity and discovery. Storytime Enrichment Classes are designed to help your child reach his or her full potential through stories, games, crafts, and activities that encourage early literacy skills. Our Preschool Storytime is designed for children ages 2 – 6 and their families. It’s free to attend and a library card is not needed. Tuesday, March 7, 6:30-7:15 p.m., Secret Garden.

Wild Wednesday Adventure Club – LEGO Club: We supply the LEGOs and you create the masterpiece. No registration is required. Wild Wednesday Adventure Clubs are for children in first through fifth grades. Wednesday, March 8, 4-4:45 p.m., Secret Garden.

Women’s Suffrage with Sharon Zonker: March is Women’s History Month and the Willennar Genealogy Center is taking time to recognize women who made a difference in our society. Local Author, Sharon Zonker, will be giving a presentation on Women’s Suffrage. Wednesday, March 8, 6-7 p.m., Learning Lab.

Super Happy Fun Time – STEAM Challenge: Using only clothespins and craft sticks, we’ll see who can build a structure that holds the most weight. Thursday, March 9, 4-4:45 p.m., Secret Garden.

Family Game Night: Stop in for some game time at the library! This drop-in family program is recommended for families with children age three and older. Playing board games is shown to help children develop good character, problem solving and reasoning skills, sharing skills by taking turns, social skills, and language skills. Friday Night Magic: Teens who are fans of Magic: The Gathering can come play each Friday evening. Friday, March 10, 5-6 p.m., Teen Library.

‘Being Mortal’ Screening and Discussion: If you thought you were dying, what would matter most? Eckhart Public Library and DeKalb Health’s Home Health and Hospice are partnering to present The Being Mortal Project. The event will include a screening of the Frontline documentary “Being Mortal,” adapted from Atul Gawande’s bestselling book “Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End.” Social workers with Home Health and Hospice will be available for a discussion following the hour-long screening. Advanced care planning materials such as advanced directives and Power of Attorney forms will be available as well. Refreshments will be served. Pick up book club books: Books for adult book clubs can be picked up at the Information Desk. Better Off Read will discuss “Wuthering Heights” by Emily Bronte on Thursday, March 16, at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. at Jeremiah’s Brewed Awakenings. Turn a Page with Anni will discuss “The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah on Wednesday, March 22, at noon in the Close Community Room.
