Peroni Nastro Azzurro Announces Chris Gelinas as Winner of Second Annual

MADE for Peroni Young Designer Awards

New York, NY – September 10, 2013 – Peroni Nastro Azzurro, one of Italy’s leading style brands and the world’s number one premium Italian beer, announced that Chris Gelinas of New York City is the winner of the Second Annual MADE for Peroni Young Designer Awards. The prestigious fashion design competition is part of Peroni’s ongoing initiative of supporting some of America’s most exciting emerging fashion talent.

The MADE for Peroni Young Designer Awards campaign kicked off on September 10th as part of MADE Fashion Week in New York where the five designer finalists – Bela Shehu (New York), Chris Gelinas (New York), Joseph Singh (New York), Shuh Jiuan Ng (Miami), and Wisit Prapong (Los Angeles) – personally presented their creative concept to the elite judging panel and joined fashion industry insiders for the celebratory Peroni aperitivo event at Milk Studios. Contestants submitted original sketches evoking the craftsmanship, authenticity and creative excellence that are championed by Peroni around the world.

The expert judging panel included top model and style icon, Coco Rocha, acclaimed fashion designer Antonio Berardi, co-founder of MADE Jenné Lombardo, Creative Art Director of Gilt Groupe and Stylist, Nicole Fasolino, winner of last year’s inaugural MADE for Peroni Young Designer Awards Nolan Bellavance and fashion editor and style expert Zanna Roberts Rassi. Additional notables including Kelly Bensimon (social), Kelly Rutherford (actress), Bianca Jade (fitness expert), Nina Agdal (model), Nicole Winhoffer (Madonna’s trainer) also attended the event to support Peroni and MADE’s fashion week partnership.

Chris Gelinas will receive $20,000 from Peroni to finance the design and production phase of his collection, under the mentorship of Antonio Berardi and Nolan Bellavance. Peroni will also provide an additional $20,000 to use towards the designer’s creative vision in showing his collection at MADE Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014 next February.

About Chris Gelinas

Born in Canada, Chris Gelinas spent much of his childhood abroad where he learned to appreciate the aesthetic richness of diverse cultures and environments. Gelinas graduated with a design degree from Parsons School of Design and refined his technical skills at some of the industry’s most acclaimed fashion houses including Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, Balenciaga, and most recently as first assistant to Olivier Theyskens at Theyskens’ Theory. With the launch of his collection, CG, Gelinas further explores the ideas of contrasting pioneering techniques with the classic conventions of luxury and femininity, creating and producing much of his collection in New York.
