It's a big homecoming weekend coming up at Ephrata High School and it all gets underway with the crowing of a new queen Friday night at halftime of the football game.
The following six EHS seniors have been nominated to the 2013 homecoming court, and one will be crowned at halftime of the Mountaineers game.
Here are the candidates:
Rachel Artz, daughter of Jim and Amy Artz, has been an active participant in winter and spring track since she was a sophomore. In addition, she ran cross country her junior year. Rachel was also a member of the choir her junior year and is currently a member of the National Technical Honor Society at the Willow Street CTC Campus. She also attended the bus trips to New York hosted by the Post Prom Committee for all four years of her high school career. Outside of school, Rachel works at Dairy Queen and is a member of Calvary Church and their youth group. In her free time, Rachel enjoys camping, going on Burger King dates with her boyfriend, Beau Mellinger, and going on long runs with her close friends. After graduation, Rachel plans to be a certified dental assistant, eventually pursuing her education further to become a dental hygienist.
Joanna Nimon is the daughter of Jimmy and Lydia Nimon. Joanna has been a part of student council her freshman through senior year. She is the senior class treasurer and has been a member of German National Honor Society for the past three years. Joanna has also been involved with Camarata during her junior and senior year. Outside of school, Joanna is an active member of the worship team and youth group at Ephrata Community Church. She has volunteered at Gateway House of Prayer since age 11 and loves to serve around the community. In her free time, Joanna enjoys spending time with friends and family. After graduation, Joanna hopes to apply her talents to the music arena and to live a life that honors God.
Brooke Overly is the daughter of Larry and Lori Overly. She has been a part of the girls' lacrosse and field hockey teams since her freshman year. Brooke is currently serving as a co-captain of the field hockey team and was the captain of the lacrosse team her sophomore and junior year. As well as playing sports, Brooke also participated in prom committee her junior year and is currently the editor-in-chief of the school newspaper. Outside of school, Brooke is a member of the Hope United Methodist church and is a cashier at Redner's Warehouse Market. In her free time, Brooke loves spending time with her family and friends and playing and watching sports. After graduation, Brooke plans to attend a four-year university possibly majoring in business management/marketing.
Kaylee Sweigart is the daughter of Shawn and Heather Sweigart. Kaylee has been a member of the tennis team since her sophomore year of high school. She has also participated in softball, freshman through senior year. Kaylee is also helping to manage the boys' soccer team this year. In addition, she took part in the stage crew for the play her sophomore year of high school. She is currently employed at Domino's. When she is not busy with work, school, or sports she enjoys spending time with her friends and family. After graduation Kaylee is planning to go to Berks Technical Institute to major in dental hygiene.
Nicole Wilkerson is the daughter of Todd and Jennifer Wilkerson. Nicole has been a part of Pit Crew for kids with special needs. She has been a member of the field hockey team freshman through senior year, serving as a co-captain this year. Nicole has also participated on the winter and spring track teams since her sophomore year. Outside of school, Nicole is a member of Hopeland United Methodist Church and is an active member in their youth group. Nicole is currently employed at The Udder Choice. When she's not busy with sports, school, or work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends. Nicole is planning on going to a four-year university and hopes to play field hockey and major in exercise science, physical therapy.
Carley Zvitkovitz is the daughter of Mike and Sonya Zvitkovitz. Carley has run cross country for the past three years and served as the captain of the team her junior and senior year. Carley has also participated in winter and spring track for the last two years. In addition, she helped out with the homework club at the middle school and played in the band her freshman year. Outside of school, Carley works at New Holland Custom woodworks where she assists with office duties. In her free time, Carley enjoys fishing and spending time with friends and family. After high school, Carley hopes to go to college to become a physical therapist.
