Hayley Atwell, Matthew Macfadyen and Tracy Ullman have joined BBC’s Howards End, the adaptation of

E.M. Forster’s novel penned by Pulitzer Prize and Academy Award-nominated screenwriter and playwright Kenneth Lonergan.

Directed by Hettie Macdonald, the four-part drama will explore the changing landscape of social and class divisions in early 20th century England through the prism of three families: the Wilcoxes (with

Macfadyen portraying Henry Wilcox), representing upper-class pragmatism and materialism with a fortune made in the Colonies; the intellectual and idealistic half-German Schlegel siblings — Margaret (Atwell), Tibby, and Helen; and the Basts, an impoverished young couple embodying the aspirations of the lower classes. Ullman will play Aunt Juley Mund.

The miniseries will air on BBC One in the UK and Starz in the US.
