Actor Sebastian Stan dropped by Comic-Con in San Diego over the weekend with other members of the onscreen Marvel gang to talk about the upcoming “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”
The former Rockland Country Day School student played Bucky Barnes, Captain America’s best friend and sidekick, who fell from a cliff and was presumed dead at the end of the last film. This time around, Stan’s been upgraded to the film’s bad guy and title character: He plays the Winter Soldier, who, in the comics, is Bucky reprogrammed as a Soviet assassin.
Chris Evans returns as the superhero with the red-white-and-blue shield, of course, and Scarlett Johansson helps him do battle as Black Widow. Robert Redford and Emily VanCamp (“Revenge”) have been added to the cast, too.
According to CNN, the movie is scheduled for release on April 4, and is meant to bridge the gap between “The Avengers” and its 2015 sequel. Here, Captain America is adjusting to the modern world, unlike the first film, which was set in the 1940s.
Here’s what Stan had to say about tackling his new/old role:
In a sense, he’s very similar to (Captain America). He’s another lost man in this new world. As we know, the journey for him is then just discovering his own identity and his role in this new world, in his own way.
