                                         Target Adv. Sanjiv Punalekar’s

innocuous tweet in a bid to fault Sanatan

Do not distract people from your corruption and divert attention to Sanatan :Adv. Sanjiv Punalekar

Mumbai - Adv. Sanjiv Punalekar is the National Secretary of Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad. Mr. Shripal Sabnis is the President of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan which was scheduled to be held in Pune from 15th to 18th January 2016.

In his address a few days earlier, Mr. Sabnis had referred to Prime Minister Modi in a very dis-respectful manner. Enraged by this, many Modi followers and BJP workers criticised Mr. Sabnis and held agitations against him.

In a tweet, Adv. Punalekar, a prominent High Court lawyer, advised Mr. Sabnis to take a morning walk regularly so that he can keep cool and think rationally. However, the tweet, which was a simple health advice (recommended even by Yoga Guru Ramdev Baba) took a wrong turn.

It may be recalled Dr. Dabholkar and Com. Pansare were killed while they were taking a morning walk. A Sanatan seeker has been arrested as a suspect in Pansare’s killing. Adv. Punalekar is also a seeker of Sanatan Sanstha. Therefore, so-called progressive elements, Congress and NCP leaders and some anti-Sanatan people deliberately twisted Adv. Punalekar’s tweet to suit their nefarious designs to defame Sanatan and implicate Adv. Punalekar some-how by claiming that he had threatened Mr. Sabnis of fatal consequences. Some TV channels even accused Sanatan Sanstha of encouraging Adv. Punalekar.

This issue became a topic of hot discussion all over Maharashtra and TV news channels left no stone unturned to organise panel discussions. In a programme on 7th January, on ‘ABP Mhaza’, Adv. Punalekar and Mr. Nawab Malik (Spokesperson of NCP) participated in one such panel discussion. Adv. Punalekar explained how a friendly advice had been turned into a murder threat by vested interests. He ably countered the accusations of Mr. Nawab Malik. Here are excerpts of what Adv. Punalekar said.

1. I represent many organisations. However, it is not binding on me to subscribe to every ideology.

2. Mr. Malik is referring to Sameer Gaikwad as a killer. He should realise that leaders of his party are facing many charges. What should we call them ?

3. Mr. Vijay Tendulkar spoke of shooting the Prime Minister. Why no one talks of action against him. Such people enjoy the blessings of politicians. Mr. Jitendra Avhad said that they will break the limbs of those who compare Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj with Bajirao in the film ‘Bajirao-Mastani’. Why did Mr. Malik not ask for his arrest ? Mr. Sharad Pawar gave inciting speeches on casteism. Why did Mr. Malik not demanded his arrest ? (Mr. Malik claimed that he is unaware of these incidents.)

4. While advising Mr. Sabnis, there wasn’t the slightest intention of a threat. If I had known that the tweet would be twisted, I would not have used such words.

When anchor Namrata Wagle asked him why anyone should believe what he is saying, Adv. Punalekar responded, “Despite 2 hardened criminals travelling with Mr. Sharad Pawar, people still elected him saying that they were not aware of his links. Why should everyone not believe me ?”

5. A confidential letter to the Police from us in the case of Com. Pansare’s killing was leaked to the press. We demand that those who leaked it should be hanged.

6. I welcome the demand of an inquiry against me. I am ready to abide by any legal procedure. About the leakage of the confidential letter, I am prepared to face a Narco test. However, this test should also be carried out on  journalists and the Police. (If Adv. Punalekar had really threatened, he would have avoided under-going legal procedures. His readiness itself proves his innocence in the matter. - Editor)
