Passenger who dealt a slap to Air Lankan hostess for refusing to consent to immoral proposal ... in custody!
A Sri Lankan passenger who was linked to a problem of making advances to an air hostess on a Sri Lankan flight arriving at Katunayaka from Qatar on the 12th of last month was produced before
courts last week.
The passenger referred to happens to be an employer of Qatar and had been on his way to Sri Lanka on a holiday some days back and during this process he had got to know a certain charming air hostess on the flight and had become friendly with her. The passenger who has mentioned that he had come on an Economy Class ticket on the flight had made cordial relationships with the said air hostess at a time when air hostesses were serving refreshments. Later on, he had been moving here and there giving the impression that he was to go to the toilet and remaining in the vicinity there had now and again engaged in conversation with her. This passenger had also made use of the opportunity afforded to passengers of the Economy Class served with wine which he had ordered more than the normal quantity.
The passenger who displayed a sense of somewhat been intoxicated had enjoyed a nap on the flight and after waking up, a short while later had gone in search of the air hostess friend and had approached the location where she and her other colleagues were present. At that moment the air hostess had noticed him and cast a smile at him and had gone near him and started a chat with him when the passenger had remarked "I like to kiss you ... shall we go inside this washroom?" The air hostess whose eyes turned red in that instance had reprimanded him. At that moment the passenger had got involved in an argument with her and had tried to drag her by the hand when she had brushed aside his hand and finally it ended up with the passenger dealing her a slap on her face. On this occasion the other members on the staff of the flight had intervened and managed to settle the conflict and they had had to drag the passenger and make him sit on his seat.
The air hostess who had served with Sri Lankan Airways since the year 2010 had then taken steps to lodge a complaint with the police on 12th November 2016 in relation to the incident which took place inside the flight arriving from Qatar after it reached Katunayaka on which occasion he was immediately taken into custody by officers of Negombo Police. The passenger who was remanded for having slapped an air hostess inside a flight was later released on a cash bail of Rs. 5000 by Negombo Magistrate Mr. Ruchira Weliwatta and instructions were issued that the complaint be once more filed on 13th January 2017. It was one M.D. Philip of Pamunugama area who was so released on bail.
