ITN to go 'Adults only?'

What was signified by an advertisement published in the national newspapers last Saturday was about a series of stories that Independent Rupavahini Channel which they would be displaying newly. What was indicated there was that, 'the only channel which brings esteemed foreign dramas suitable for you adults to
enjoy after the children go to sleep ... and is embarking on a new journey from the 19th'. As such a series of foreign films suitable to be broadcast after 10.30 in the night has been thus promoted.

The Independent Channel which incidentally happens to be the first rupavahini channel in Sri Lanka had been broadcasting films such as Bay Watch and Beverly Hills in the nights under the understanding 'more suitable for adults',  from the 80s. But there was no promotion activities noted at that time. At a later stage after the Sirasa Channel commenced, an attempt had been made to broadcast programmes displaying totally nude and semi-nude scenes under the caption 'Night time TV',  after midnight. However later on as a result of criticisms aimed at them the broadcast was withheld.

Independent Rupavahini which was connected to an administration of the State achieved number one channel status because of war news broadcasts and Sinhala Mega tele-dramas and thus drew an exorbitant income as a result; but has because of various reasons now come down from that status. This may be the reason why a new journey is in the offing with a sales promotion as 'the only channel which brings you dramas suitable for you adults'.
