Kanazawa Kaga Maki-e
Maki-e's history can be traced back to the Nara Era (710-794) and was developed over time.
Later down in the history, Kanazawa lacquer ware started during the Edo Era (1603-1867) when the prestigious maki-e artist Igarashi Doho was invited the city of Kanazawa from Kyoto to by the third lord of Kaga, Maeda Toshitsune,
Here, it developed into a unique combination of the elegance of aristocratic culture and the strength of the warrior culture.
The techniques have been passed down through masters and students of the Kaga clan workshop and townspeople from the Edo Period(1603?1868) until today.
Kanazawa lacquer ware is further characterized by the one-by-one production of tea utensils and internal furnishings as artistic handicraft rather than mass-produced goods.
Koi Carp Fish's Legend
Have you ever heard the command of KOI fish in Japan?
Probably surprising to many western is the largest amount of ancient myth that surrounds these beautiful fish in the East and its elevated position there. These symbolisms attached to Koi fish are generally derived from myths, legends and stories of ancient China and Japan.
According to Chinese folklore and Japanese legend if a koi fish succeeded in climbing the falls at a point called the "Dragon Gate" in the "Yellow River" would become the dragon. "The legend records that in the third moon each year, the Koi that had successfully made the trip to the door of the dragons, had their heads burned off by lightning and jumped on the rapids, Kois head was replaced by a dragon and then his body took the full form of the mighty dragon" (as in the history of "the nine warrior Koi fish") Based on that assumption, the Koi fish became a symbol of worldly aspiration and advancement.
In Japan, a Koi fish reflects a brave samurai. Koi fish climb the waterfall bravely, and if they get picked up, will face his death on the cutting board bravely, like a samurai warriors who face spade of an enemy. On the Day of boys in Japan, flags symbolizing Koi fishes honor each child in the family as an inspiration to young people whoc will grow strong and resilient as this extraordinary fish.
Koi fish is also a symbol for a family, especially in Japan: the black Koi for fathers, the red flames Koi for mothers, the blue and white for a son, and the last, the pink and red for a daughter.
More over, because of the natural ability to survive any type of living conditions of the Koi fish, has become a symbol of strength and determination to overcome obstacles. With his perseverance in adversity and strength of purpose, represents the value and the ability to achieve high goals.
With plenty of symbolism, the koi fish has been one of the most famous symbols of Japan, as well as in Asia.
