Two Texans Explain the Value of 21st Century Cures
H.R. 6, the 21st Century Cures Act aims to modernize our health care system, unleashing the promise of new innovation and helping bring faster cures and therapies to patients.
Rep. Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) discussed the Cures effort with Comcast Newsmakers. “When you think of the vast changes that have occurred … even in just the last few years since I’ve been in Congress, how things have changed. FDA, [is a] relic of another era,” said Burgess. “This next generation of doctors, they’re going to have tools at their disposal to alleviate human suffering no generation of doctors has ever had. … We just want things to work and we want them to work better, we want them to work faster with all of the safeguards that we now enjoy.”

Another Texan, Rep. Will Hurd (R-TX), writes about the value of 21st Century Cures in Big Bend Now. “The 21st Century Cures Act will help the discovery, development and delivery of life-saving and life-improving therapies move through the maze of bureaucracy in several ways.” One such policy is providing, “a way to aggressively pursue cures for rare and devastating diseases by giving new economic incentives to develop therapies for serious and life threatening conditions that the market previously could not support.” Read the complete piece online here.
