The RES project is now viable after winning the RET wind farm auction

Wind developer RES Australia has hosted a business breakfast in the Victorian town of Ararat and explained its process of selecting partners to work on construction of a new 200MW, 70 turbine wind farm.

Construction work on the Ararat Wind Farm is slated to commence in the next three months, creating employment opportunities and contracts for businesses to work on the project and related insfrastructure, including 52 kilometres of internal roads, a 33/133kv substation, a steel warehouse and 70 kilometres of cable reticulation.

RES Australia’s Daniel Leahy said the company was keen to get a high level of local involvement.

“It’s not just electrical, civil and all the main construction, the stereotypical work, but it will be the cleaners, uniform suppliers, accommodation suppliers, and everyone in between … (we want to) try to get as many businesses from Ararat as well,” he told the meeting.

“Local businesses need to jump on the ICN gateway website, register their business, look for Ararat Wind Farm expression of interest and submit an expression of interest.”

The Ararat Wind Farm will be located on rural land located between nine and 17 kilometres northeast of Ararat.

The project was stalled due to Federal Government inaction on the Renewable Energy Target, but RES won a part of the ACT’s wind auction, and now the project is considered financially viable to proceed.
