FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The poppy campaign has been officially proclaimed in Fort St. John. The campaign proclamation was made at a council meeting yesterday afternoon.
Members from the Fort St. John legion were in attendance and expressed the importance behind the campaign and encouraged anyone interested in the legion to sign up as a member.
Acting Mayor Byron Stewart proclaimed the poppy campaign to take place from October 30th to November 11th.
Also of note was the Remembrance Day Parade that will happen on November 11th.
The Ceremony will begin with a parade at 10:00 a.m. The procession will start on 105th Avenue, in front of the Royal Canadian Legion, marching down 100th Street, turning west on 103rd Avenue, turning north on 102nd Street, stopping at the Cenotaph and continuing to the Legion for an indoor service at 11:00 a.m. Members of City Council, veterans, service groups (Cadets, Scouts, Girl Guides), RCMP and Fire will participate in the parade.
RCMP will also be in attendance for security measures. They have been mandated to heighten security.
Council will also be supporting the event by adding $5,000.00 from the Council Contingency Account in support of extraordinary expenses that come with hosting the event.
