OTTAWA – Bob Zimmer, Member of Parliament for Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies, presented an e-petition for LNG in the House of Commons today.

He delivered the following speech:

“Mr. Speaker, I would like to present this petition representing thousands of my constituents and Canadians across this country. The petitioners call upon the Government of Canada to support residents, families, communities, and businesses of Canada by saying yes to liquefied natural gas and approve B.C. LNG projects such as Pacific NorthWest LNG; to establish as a clean energy global leader by providing access to much needed LNG resources to markets in areas such as Asia, assisting in the reduction of global GHG emissions; to reduce the federal deficit through significant contributions of federal, provincial, municipal governments via taxes and royalties related to LNG; and, last, to help stimulate the economy and put Canadians back to work in rural communities, such as my own and the ones in northeastern British Columbia, with the approval of B.C. LNG projects.”

The e-petition was first started by Fort St. John’s David McDougall. The petition itself received 1,904 signatures from across the country.

Zimmer says he will continue to offer his support to those pushing for LNG Projects.

“I am pleased to be able to offer my support to residents like David McDougall who continue to push for the development of LNG projects in our region. I trust that this timely petition will positively influence the Prime Minister and his Cabinet with their upcoming decision on Pacific NorthWest LNG, as we know Minister McKenna received the CEAA report last week.”
