Every time I had looked at the pictures of Greece, there would be these beautiful architectural ruins, which flashed in front of my eyes and always existed in all their glory. This day I had made up my mind that exploring the famous Acropolis hill which was the most significant site of the city was my priority.

All of us rose up, feeling nicely rested. After a sumptuous breakfast we started off to the most important and highly recognisable monuments of the world. The locals whom I had, had the chance of interacting, the previous evening had enlightened me saying that the meaning of acropolis, which could be broken up as acro-edge and polis-city, and hence it was famous as the, “Sacred Rock”. This is one of the most significant reference points of ancient Greece. This represents the apogee or peak of the artistic development during the 5th century BC.

On this day all of us had taken the metro to reach here. The best time to visit this place is between September and April. We were prepared for touring around on foot, wearing the best walking shoes. I knew that this is how the site has to be covered. We had on our hats too as the sun was too hot and blazing. Even then the site seemed to be crowded. This made me believe, that it is undoubtedly the most visited heritage site. At the Acropolis the tickets are available at its two gates. But as we had taken the metro, we purchased the tickets at the kiosk at the Museum. The rate of the ticket was 12 European Euros.

After we reached the Propelayea, the entrance was zigzag which made my child giggle away. However my husband held my son’s hand, as the ground was quite slippery. Also I was a little worried as here there were masses of people walking in huge numbers. Hence we kept close to each other. My son pointed out excitedly to certain monuments and the other experienced tourists said, they were the Athena Nike temple and Agrippa’s monument. They also told us that this has been under restoration, for more than 10 years. We looked up at the imposing columns then started roaming about atop acropolis.
