It was a stellar year for this little blog. Exactly a year ago, I shared a an image on Pinterest that changed everything, generating over 185,000 repins and a whole world of new readers here.

Want to know what it was? You’ll see it below because it also ended up being my #1 post!

While this list shows the most visited posts (which also happen to be DIY projects), there’s a whole other list to be made as well, and that’s the posts that generated the kindest notes and responses, and the ones that seemed to mean the most to you, the reader, and me!  The big traffic pays the bills, but the sweet responses fuel the desire to do more, so thank you.

8. How To Place A Fence Or Screen For Maximum Privacy

7. 12 Creative & Frugal DIY Garden Projects for $20 or Less

I love it that this post did so well because it’s a compilation of projects from a group of creative bloggers I belong to called The Garden Charmers. This is just one of three posts collecting their great DIY garden ideas. And they’re all frugal. Go Charmers! (You can see the best of The Garden Charmers here.)

6.  Glass Garden Totems Garden Art DIY

Yup, glass garden art was a very popular topic this year! I kept getting so many questions, I made posts and how to videos to provide the basic information. I also confirmed to myself that hermits like me make very awkward video hosts! (I vowed never to say ‘um’ in a video again after making this one. Come  to think of it, I don’t think I’ve made a video since that one. Hmmmm.)

5. How To Make Flowers From Dishes & Plates

Sometimes things sound just too intimidating to try. And that’s why I procrastinated about learning to drill holes in ceramic plates until I tried it and realized it’s as simple as drilling wood. You just need to know the right drill bit to use and a trick shown in this post and video:

3. How To Make A Stone Birdhouse

This post really is a perennial favourite. I made a stone birdhouse over ten years ago and posted it my former blog. Now, all these years later, it’s still a very popular topic. And well-deserved, I think, because once you learn the right supplies to use for outdoor garden art projects, you can make just about anything. Plus, stone birdhouses kinda rock the gardening world.

2. Garden Art DIY: Decorative Garden Balls

See what I mean about glass gems this year? They just kept bringing more readers, and more questions, and then I would create posts to provide the answers. I also received the most beautiful contributions from friends on the Empress of Dirt Facebook page including Karen Weigert Enos who, as you’ll see in this next post, is a master of garden ball art.

And this is the post that made 2013 a brilliant one for the old Empress of Dirt. I shared it on a whim a year ago, and serrendipity took over.
