Indian Railway is a biggest employer in India in Public Sector. Every year lakhs of employees are recruited by it.It is playing a vital role in in reducing unemployment in our country by filling up vacancies from group-A to Group-D. At present in India more than 14 lakh people are doing railway jobs. In Railway, jobs are available for all qualifications from 8th Standard Matriculation, I2th Class, Graduation, B.E / B.Tech, ITI and Diploma. Especially railway jobs for 10th class, ITI and 10+2 are often notified in leading newspapers like Employment News and Rojgar Samachar.

The staff in railway are divided into 4 categories i.e. Group-A, Group-B, Group-C and Group-D. Group-A category recruitments are conducted UPSC through Special Class Railway Apprentices Exam and Civil Services Exams (IRTS) etc. Group-B Posts are promotional posts and are not appointed directly. The jobs under Group-C and Group-D categories are appointed by Railway Recruitment Boards and Railway Recruitment Cells. These were set up to conduct recruitment tests and select competent staff for filling up various jobs in railway. These two railway organizations viz. Railway Recruitment Boards and Railway Recruitment Cells release recruitment advertisements throughout the year for more than lakh posts.
While the recruitment of Class-3 posts (Group-C) Technical and Non-Technical cadres like Clerk, Station Master, Ticket Collector, Commercial and Traffic Apprentices and some posts in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Signal & Communication departments are recruited by Railway Recruitment Boards, the jobs in group-D category like Trackman, Porter, Hamal, Khalasi, Assistant Pointman and Safaiwala are appointed by Railway Recruitment Cells.
At present there are 21 RRBs and 16 RRCs are working hard to conduct recruitments in Indian Railways. The list of RRBs and RRCs are given below
