As much as I love Emma Blackery and the videos that she makes, I’m going to have to disagree with her on this one.

Reaction videos are some of the most popular videos on YouTube right now, it’s not just people reacting to videos, trailers, music videos etc, but it’s also gaming channels. Gaming videos are the most popular videos on the website, and the thing that I find funny and ironic about it is that Emma has her own separate gaming channel called BirdyBoots!

Not only that, but react videos give peoples opinions on different things. The Fine Bros have made videos on their channel of mainly people my age reacting to different political topics and giving their views on them, which is really helpful if you ask me!

Reaction videos also make YouTubers interact with their fans. One example is my personal favourite YouTuber Markiplier. He has made video of him reacting to a fan made video when he reached 8 million subscribers (forgive me if I got the number wrong, it was a long time ago when I watched it) and at the end of the video, he thanked his fans for everything they’ve done and for just, generally being great fans.

Reaction videos are some of the best and most important videos on YouTube. But, at the end of the day, that is my opinion. Hate me all you want, but I’m sorry Emma Blackery and her fans, this video really annoyed me…

As I said in the video, and in the comments: I don’t hate all reaction channels. I ONLY have an issue with the ones that PRETEND to be official music channels, movie trailers etc that trick you into watching them, thinking you’re getting the actual thing. Many reaction channels are good, and many ‘reactors’ have great personalities, such as Tyrone Magnus. I’m clearly also distinguishing between these clickbait channels that provide no entertainment and gaming channels. For one: the majority of ‘gamers’ on YouTube have wonderful, unique personalities that people love, and people come back for THEM, not the games. Two: The games they’re playing are interactive content. You’re seeing original things happen every time someone else plays a game.

I am talking about the channels that 1) Use misleading thumbnails, i.e. put the ‘vevo’ logo over music video thumbnails, 2) Don’t use the word ‘reaction’ in their titles, and 3) don’t even REACT! Like, they just sit there with earbuds in and nod! What value does that add?! React channels that provide entertainment that also distinguish themselves AS react channels, using appropriate titles and thumbnails are clearly not what I was talking about.
