SCL Health, Emerus and Duke Realty Expanding Health Care Options in Denver Area

Four new freestanding community hospitals opening in Aurora, Littleton, Northglenn and Westminster, Colo., to provide innovative, convenient health care in neighborhoods.

HOUSTON – Sept. 1, 2015 – Residents who need quality health care services in the Denver area will soon have new options that will provide comprehensive, compassionate and convenient patient-centric care right in their own neighborhoods, thanks to SCL Health, Emerus and Duke Realty.

SCL Health, a faith-based nonprofit, and Emerus, a national provider of medical care, have formed a joint venture to build and manage four new freestanding inpatient community hospitals. Indianapolis-based commercial real estate developer Duke Realty is developing all of the new hospitals.

The 37,080-square-foot SCL Health Community Hospital, 6500 W. 104th Ave. in Westminster, will open later this year. The 37,080-square-foot SCL Health Community Hospital, 8515 West Coal Mine Ave. in Littleton, will open early next year.

The development team has begun construction of the other two hospitals: a 37,080-square-foot facility in Aurora and a 55,000-square-foot hospital in Northglenn. Both hospitals are expected to open next year.

Officials from SCL Health and Emerus said these new hospitals will be smaller than typical hospital campuses but will offer premier and innovative health care services found in larger hospitals. This includes emergency medical care, labor and delivery services, inpatient care, a wide range of surgical procedures, and other comprehensive services. Each location also will offer an on-site laboratory and radiology services.

Dr. Toby Hamilton, CEO of Emerus, said, “We are honored to partner with SCL Health System to expand health care services to the growing Denver region. These new community hospitals will provide residents with cost-effective medical services, greater convenience and an enhanced patient experience.”

Keith Konkoli, Duke Realty Executive Vice President, said, “While we’ve had a successful relationship with Emerus for many years, this is the first time we’ve partnered with SCL Health System. This is in line with Duke Realty’s overall strategy of partnering with the highest-quality health care providers in the country. We hope to work on many more developments with SCL in the future.”

The general contractor for the four hospitals is the Englewood, Colo., office of Kiewit Building Group. The architect is the Houston office of PhiloWilke Partnership.
