Mavs Fit Program focuses on helping youth develop a health lifestyle.

DALLAS, TX - Baylor Emergency Medical Centers are proud to partner with the Dallas Mavericks on a new program called MAVS FIT that will encourage youth to make healthy living a priority at a young age through nutritious eating and regular exercise.

The Mavericks and Baylor Emergency Medical Centers have again partnered with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dallas, Arlington and Collin County for a four week Challenge: Children from 12 different Boys and Girls Club branches around the metroplex will learn how to make healthy decisions and track their eating and exercise habits through a point system.

"The importance of physical activity and a healthy lifestyle goes beyond “looking good," especially for kids, who are just looking to have fun,” said Dr. Thomas Black, Baylor Emergency Medical Centers. “As an Emergency Room Physician, I know firsthand the importance of physical activity and good nutrition. It's no secret that a healthy heart and lungs keep your body running; but for kids it means so much more. Community based programs like Mavs Fit are necessary because they make healthy living fun for kids. “

Students will win prizes based on their level of participation, and the Boys and Girls Club branch with the highest overall point total will win a donation of brand new sporting goods equipment and a Mavs pep rally. MAVS FIT Challenge nutritional information was presented by Albertsons.
