Grammy Award winners Pentatonix, the acapella group from Texas, USA, will meet their fans in Indonesia for the first time ever in a live concert scheduled to take place on 3 June 2015 at the Kartika Expo Center, Balai Kartini, Jakarta. The concert in Jakarta forms part of “The On My Way Home Tour” in Southeast Asia which also covers Kuala Lumpur, Manila, and Singapore.
Pentatonix (often abbreviated as PTX) are known for their superb vocal harmonization and unique musical arrangements covering existing popular songs – sometimes in the form of medleys, along with some of their own original material. Fusing acapella with beat box and featuring a strong presence of low bass vocals, as well as a diverse range of vocal percussion, the group was first formed in 2011 and came into the spotlight in the same year by winning the third season of The Sing-Off on NBC.
The group consisting of Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstie Maldonado, Avi Kaplan and Kevin Olusola also gained popularity through YouTube and social media. Having now 7.8 million subscribers and more than 880 million cumulative views, the PTXofficial YouTube page is currently the 12th most subscribed-to music channel and the 42nd most subscribed channel overall. Pentatonix’s music video tribute to Daft Punk recently surpassed 125 million views.
Their debut EP PTX, Volume 1 was released in 2012, followed by PTXmas the same year, with their third release, PTX, Vol. II, debuting at number 1 on Billboard’s Independent Albums chart and number 10 on the Billboard 200 in 2013. In May 2014, Pentatonix signed with RCA Records, a “flagship” label of Sony Music Entertainment. In the same year, the group released their fourth EP, PTX, Vol. III, and two full-length studio albums, PTX, Vols. 1 & 2. At the 57th Grammy Awards in 2014, Pentatonix along with music producer Ben Bram, won the category of Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella for “Daft Punk”.
Tickets have been on sale online since Monday, 6th April 2015 and are divided into three categories, being: Festival (IDR400,000), Gold(IDR750,000) and Platinum(IDR1,500,000). Anas Syahrul, CEO of Rajawali Indonesia as promoter of the concert, informed that most tickets have already been sold out, leaving only about 30% from the total 2000 available tickets.
“The Gold class tickets sold out in four hours from the opening of the box office, followed by the platinum tickets with only a few remaining, and now what seems to be still available in relatively large numbers are only for the Festival class” explained Anas Syahrul, as reported by detik.com. In response to the high public enthusiasm for the “Pentaholics” (the fans of Pentatonix) promoters are adding 1000 more tickets in the festival class since it is the only class that still has sufficient space for additional seats.
