Here in New England we are gearing up for the big game day! This means lots of Patriots’ gear, getting together with friends and family, and of course yummy food and drinks to create the perfect Super Party! Well my dear readers. I don’t want to shock you with this confession but I do have something I need to share. I was born without the hostess gene. If you have been around this blog enough you probably know that the idea of throwing a cocktail party or a kids’ birthday party for more than three people makes me break into a cold sweat followed by at least 30 minutes of recovery in the fetal position. But because I love parties and hanging with friends and family I have come up with what you might call some life hacks, or hostess hacks, over the years to help avoid being written off as a total hermit.
Because I refuse to miss a second of this game, I have come up with a killer plan for the big day. I will walk you through every step that it takes to throw stress-free big game parties including two snack ideas that are so easy my kids can make them. You so have this!
1. Hit the grocery store alone. I am blessed that my boys are both in school full day. As soon as I drop them off at school I head to Big Y and it’s fancy/boozey counterpart Table & Vine. If your kids aren’t in school, choose a Big Y with a Little Y Kids Club! You can leave your children at the club for up to TWO glorious hours where they will be watched and entertained by trained child care professionals. I don’t know about you but food shopping child-free is the equivalent of a 5-star spa vacation for this mama. Enjoy your time along and breathe.
Look how happy I am!
2. Skip the coupon clipping. Bring your Silver Coin Rewards card along and get great deals on all your favorites at Big Y. All the savings of coupons minus the work and the stress of trying to remember them. Have you ever won a gold coin? I have not but my husband wins them all the time. They are AMAZing! I got my fave naan bread the other day for 48 cents. And no I am not teasing you. 48 cents! Less than a pack of gum.
3. You don’t even have to cook! Honestly, I never really feel like cooking. We had takeout pizza for dinner last night and I might be eating the leftovers for lunch. This is a judgment free zone. Big Y has got you covered. Check with your local Big Y to see what is on their menu. Check out these yummy game day deals my Big Y is offering:
Party Power Pack: two 30 inch super subs (roast beef, ham or turkey), party size pizza (one topping), 4 pounds of super tenders, InVinceIble Pizza
InVinceible Sandwich: They start with a loaf of their famous LaCrosta Italian Bread, layer in a pound of meat (Ham, Pepperoni, Hard Salami and Capicola Hot Ham), add Provolone Cheese and top it with Lettuce, Tomatoes, Roasted Red Peppers, Onions, Banana Peppers, Mayonnaise and Basil Pesto.
Game Day Seasoned Wings: in the butcher shop – Buffalo, Teriyaki, Beer Can and honey BBQ.
Party special: party size cheese pizza, 12 super tenders, one liter bottle of coke. $24.98 with silver coin
Smaller party special: large cheese, 6 super tenders, one liter bottle coke $12.98 with silver coin
4. Get your booze and your fancy snacks all in one spot. Swing into Table & Vine for your favorite beer, wine and liquor. Feel like going a little more high-end with your snacks? This is the place for you. From gourmet cheeses to exotic olives to freshly made garlic bread spread. This is the place to stock up. The people who work there are super knowledgable plus they have cute little signs all over the place that tell you what wine to pair with your cheese! How fancy is that? And totally stress free.
See that cheese. It goes with that wine. Grab both AND take a picture of the sign with your phone so you will remember what goes with what when you get home. Here is my favorite snack (great for any day, but game days, too!) and all THREE of the ingredients are from Table & Vine: Pretzel Chips, Goat Cheese Brie, and Dalmatia Fig Spread. Just layer the cheese on top of the chip and the fig spread on top of the cheese. Yum.
5. Try some semi-homemade cooking. Here is my family’s favorite appetizer and it could not be easier. Coincidentally, it also involves only THREE ingredients: butter, blue cheese crumbles and store-bought biscuit dough. This time I used Grands but I have also used Immaculate Baking Company biscuits which were equally delicious.
