International Dorothy Dunnett Day 2014 | Dorothy Dunnett Society:

dunnettfandom:

The Dorothy Dunnett Society was formed to help our members enjoy, discuss and promote the works of Dorothy Dunnett and the historical periods in which they were set. The Society is based in Edinburgh, Scotland. We have members in Scotland, England, Wales, Ireland, the USA, Canada, Australia, Germany, New Zealand, South Africa, France and other countries.

The fourth annual IDDD will take place on Saturday 8th November 2014, when once again Dunnett Readers across the world will meet in homes, restaurants, pubs, parks, museums and other locations; and at 13.00 (1 pm) local time they will raise a glass to toast the Lady who started it all.

If you would like to help organise an IDDD meeting in 2014, or to attend one, please email Simon Hedges at iddd@ddsoc.org.  It doesn’t matter if there are two of you or two score.

Here are some of the events already planned and we will add others as we hear of them.

Bath, England

We are a short while away from celebrating our fourth International Dorothy Dunnett Day and for those of us who live in the south west of England, or are happy to travel there, I am hoping to organise a meal in Bath to celebrate the day. We will be meeting at 12 noon to have lunch at a restaurant (venue still to be decided) and we will raise a toast to Dorothy at 1pm.

Please e-mail me (Karen) at iddd@ddsoc.org with “Bath” in the subject line if you would like to join us. Bath is very busy on Saturdays so I need to book asap! Please pass this message on to any other Dunnett readers and their friends who you think might like to come as I’m sure I don’t have a comprehensive list of contacts.

There will, of course, be time to explore the city and visit museums and other historic sites in the afternoon.

Nashville, USA

Peg doesn’t know of any other Dunnett readers in her area (there must be some!) and would love to hear from them.  Write to iddd@ddsoc.org with “Nashville” in the subject line.

OK, I admit it:  I’m a stone Lymond fan.

On November 8, I’ll be at the World Fantasy Convention outside Washington D.C. *

Anyone else at WFC want to join me in the bar for a Scotch and some angst?

* ETA:  At WFC, we’re all meeting in the Bar at 5:30!

I hope everyone else gets to find their fellow Dunnetteers & have a great day celebrating her life and work.
