The Turbine Art Fair returns to Turbine Hall in 2014 from 17th – 20th July 2014.
Thursday 17th July: Opening Preview Evening 18h00 – 22h00 – R300 per person. Pre-booking only/limited tickets
Friday 18th July: 10:00 – 20:00 – Special rate R55 for general admission
Saturday 19th July: 10:00 – 18:00
Sunday 20th July: 10:00 – 17:00

TAF14 improves where the first event left off with increased emphasis on new work and promotion of emerging South African artists. Over 40 galleries will be exhibiting from throughout South Africa. While still accessible (all artwork will be priced below R30 000) TAF14 will see greater importance placed on quality and innovation.
In addition, Turbine Hall’s unique history and position within Newtown and Johannesburg provides TAF14’s central theme – “Emerge”.
The constantly changing area from market to slum to economic centre to creative hub, all representative of broader Johannesburg, should provide gallery exhibitors with motivation for their curated spaces. Galleries have been asked to consider this theme when submitting their applications to take part in TAF14.
Young and emerging artists had the opportunity to submit work and a selection of the best pieces chosen by a judging panel will be showcased in a curated group exhibition at TAF’14 facilitated by Assemblage and supported by RMB.
Other exciting features of TAF14 include:
A larger exhibition in 2014 – the entire basement area of the Turbine Hall as well as the upper glass house will be used as exhibition area.
A featured artist, Nathaniel Stern, will be presenting his Compressionism Series
An interactive talk’s programme hosted by Usha Seejarim which will cover all aspects of the contemporary art world from collecting to curating.

“The Open Box “ – a discussion platform aimed at new media and alternative approaches to art. (Saturday and Sunday morning)
A full day workshop in collaboration with Vansa, aimed at the emerging artist that will include talks such as: Art & the institution, The Art of exposure, The artist for hire (fee & contract) Beyond the gallery, The Curator displacing the artist. Pre-booking is essential as there are only 60 places available.
Engagement with the broader Newtown, Braamfontein and inner city area to create an art- filled weekend experience including guided tours of the area and hospitality packages.
Children’s hosted art walkabouts by Robyn Penn and children’s art area sponsored by STAEDTLER.
On Mandela Day (18th July) – The Turbine Art Fair will be a drop-off point for the 67 blankets campaign (http://www.67blankets.co.za/#/home). Anyone bringing a handmade blanket will be given free access to TAF14 on that day.

The site retains its industrial heritage but also displays a contemporary personality. The building has an enormous energy and atmosphere – every brick speaks of its colourful history while lofty volumes of light offer opportunities to showcase significant South African art and bold architectural spaces.
