Popular Nigerian New Media voice Japheth Joshua Omojuwa today took to the streets of Berlin to protest Nigeria’s missing $20billion.

The amount, huge by every standard, has dominated public discourse since Thursday when Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the official of the Federal Government who blew the whistle on its disappearance, was surprisingly suspended by the president.

Sanusi, prior to his suspension, was the governor of the Central Bank. Late last year, he wrote a private letter to the president, informing him of a certain $49.8 accruable from Nigeria’s transactions on oil, but which the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) did neither remit to the Federation Account nor account for.

Days later, however, a meeting hurriedly held by the NNPC Group Managing Director, Finance Minister, Petroleum Minister and the CBN governor himself agreed that the missing fund was no longer $49.8b but $10.8b.

While the Corporation, notorious for a long history of running opaque operations, was yet to explain the whereabouts of the money, Mr Sanusi accused it of not remitting another $20b into the Federation Account.

Then, last Thursday, the government hurriedly suspended the CBN governor, alleging massive financial misconduct while he sat atop the nation’s apex bank; an action many interpreted as a witch-hunt.

Many concerned Nigerians on twitter Monday expressed their anger and dissatisfaction about the missing money with tweets lined beside hashtags either asking the government #FGWhereIsOurMissing20BDollar? or #WhereIsOurMoney?

Japheth Omojuwa, popular amongst Nigeria’s New Media generation, said he was ‘inspired by the picture of a Nigerian protesting the NNPC $20 billion scam alone’. He protested alone at Berlin’s Charlottenburg Area.

Enjoining other Nigerians who feel strongly about the missing funds to stage individual protests, Omojuwa said, “Sometimes, all you need is one voice! You too can do something!”
