In commemoration of Eid-Fitri, Kogi State Governor, Alh. Yahaya Bello, has charged Muslims around the world to restore peace in a world that has been challenged by wars and economic instability.

In a message through his Chief Press Secretary, Kingsley Fanwo, the Governor said Ramadan represents the sacrifice of the Muslim faithful to submit to Allah’s will and pray for peace around the world. He said the economic turmoil and wars ravaging parts of the world are challenges on the global Muslim community to prove to the world that Islam is a religion of peace by leading global efforts at enshrining peace and stability.

“We owe the world peace, progress and prosperity. As we made sacrifices during the Ramadan, Muslims should continue to pray for peace around the world because Islam is a religion of peace.

“I also urge Nigerians to support the anti-corruption crusade of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration as every religion abhors corruption and oppression of the poor and the vulnerable segment of the society. The world is looking up to Nigeria to see how we prosecute the anti-graft war.”

The Governor assured the people of Kogi State that he will govern with the fear of Allah, who has bestowed on him the leadership of the State at this crucial time.

He said: “My election to the position of governorship at a time like this is a call to service by Allah to serve the people of Kogi State with the fear of God and dedication to the ideals that will help build an egalitarian society. To this, I am resolutely committed.

“I thank the civil servants in the State for their steadfastness and sacrifice throughout the period of the staff verification exercise, which crept into the Ramadan fasting. I feel your pains. I urge you to consider it the sacrifice that will set our payrolls free from the stranglehold of ghost workers, who have made it impossible for our state to move forward.

“Having received the reports of the staff verification committee, we shall swing into action to ensure that your sacrifices are not wasted. My government will continue to accord labour its due recognition as partners in progress in our effort to broaden our socio-economic frontiers through the New Direction blueprint.”

He said his administration is on track to reposition the State through quality education, efficient healthcare delivery, agro-business, small and medium scale enterprises and youth empowerment, assuring the people of the State of better days ahead.

“When I was sworn in as the Governor of Kogi State, I pledged to make history through capital and human development. Conscious and solid efforts are ongoing to achieve my goal of building an economy that will defend our pride and our need as a people. We are on track to make the Kogi people proud of their state.

“Our intention to make Kogi an industrial destination has received a major boost with many enterprises signifying Interest to invest in our state. We have also invested in security to ensure that our nodal status is a blessing rather than a curse. We thank the security agencies for gradually returning the State to the path of sanity.

“I promised the people of Kogi State that we will defeat the few criminal elements that are bent on giving the State a status of crime notoriety. Today, we have ensured security for our people and investors.”

Governor Bello urged Muslims to continue to make Ramadan a lifestyle in order to have a better society.
