Amazing Hole In Earth

When we think of holes, most of us think of digging a hole to plant a flower, drilling a hole to finish a construction project, or even hitting a hole in one at the next golf outing. But These holes are so large it would be hard to believe they were real if you were able to see them. In man's search of mineral wealth, many enormous holes have been dug. Occasionally nature produces some  holes. Here a list of  few spectacular nature and man made hole on the face of earth.

1.Great Blue Sea-Hole - Belize

The Great Blue Hole is located in Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System, about 60 miles away from Belize City. It is about 125 meters deep and its diameter is about 300 meters wide. It has been created as a cause of sea level increase about 65,000 years ago. This place is most attractive for scuba divers who are exploring the depths of this hole. It is known that there are a plenty of cave networks in this place. Divers are also attracted with plenty of rare animal species and forms of life which can be found only in this place. Its almost perfect circular shape made it very popular among tourists who often visit this place.

2. The Door To Hell -  Turkmenistan

The Darvaza gas crater or “ The Door to Hell ” is a 60 meters wide and 20 meters deep hole in the heart of the hot, expansive Karakum desert in Turkmenistan, that has been on on fire for the last 38 years. But the hole is not of a natural origin. The large crater is a result of a Soviet gas exploration accident that occurred in 1971.The Darvaza area is rich in natural gas. While drilling in 1971, the Soviets accidentally tapped into a massive underground natural gas cavern, causing the ground to collapse and the entire drilling rig to fall in. To prevent escape of poisonous gas into the atmosphere, the geologists decided to light it on fire. They had hoped the fire would use all the fuel in a matter of days, but as it turns out, the supply of natural gas below the crater is near infinite as the crater’s been burning since.

3.Monticello Dam - California

Monticello Dam located at Lake Berryessa in Northern California constructed between 1953 and 1957, this drain acts as the lake's spillway and locally it is known as the Morning Glory Spillway, somewhat more colorfully, known as "The Glory Hole." When the dam reaches capacity, the spillway swallows water at a rate of 48,800 cubic feet per second, emptying about 700 feet away through an enormous concrete pipe. It is Not a safe place to swim. The outside diameter of the spillway is 72 feet, slowly narrowing to 28 feet at the exit. While this is the largest drain of its kind, there are other Glory Hole spillways around the world, including one in Whiskeytown Lake, and in Northern California. You can see the Glory Hole from the lake, but it is cordoned off from boaters and swimmers for safety reasons.

4. Sink Hole - Guatemala

In 2007, a 300 foot deep sinkhole is formed in Guatemala swallowing dozens of houses and  killing many people and causing thousands to be evacuated. A sinkhole is a natural depression caused by the removal of underground soil by water.
