Australia is looking to strengthen collaboration with food and food-processing companies in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, announced Michael Carter, Trade Commissioner, Australian Trade Commission in India. He was speaking at the recent tenth Indian Food Processing and Food Technology Fair, ‘Foodpro 2013′, in Chennai Trade Centre, as per a report by Sunny Peter in International Business Times.
Carter said that Australia is keen on making the Tamil Nadu coast a hub for lobsters and yellow-fin tuna. “We already had a discussion with the state government,” he said.
Speaking at the event, Carter said that Australia has a strategic plan for direct collaboration with Tamil Nadu. He said Australia’s expertise in food processing and related technologies could help build India’s capability in the sector.
This would be particularly relevant for fishing, aquaculture, dairy farming and horticulture sectors in the state.
Speaking at the expo, Sandeep Saxena, Agricultural Production Commissioner & Principal Secretary to Government, Agriculture Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, said the state government is looking at ways to make farmers stakeholders in the food processing industry. He said this would help the government ensure inclusiveness in the sector.
The three-day event is organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). This year’s event focused on the current trends in the food processing industry.
