Infiniti is one of the brands who have recently implemented a very radical change to their nomenclature, making many of us still wonder to this day: what the heck was wrong with the original naming scheme?

Either way, to ensure that Infiniti’s potential customers aren’t confused by the name change, the Nissan-based Japanese luxury sports car brand officially announced the continuation of sales of the original (current generation) G37 sedan alongside the all-new 2014 Q50 sedan, the intended G37 successor. This is in hopes to eliminate as much confusion as possible between the old and revised lineup.

Additionally, Infiniti has decidedly moved their midsized sports sedan upmarket with the introduction of the Q50, which is also visible with the pricing gap between the outgoing G37 sedan—which starts at $32,550 while the Q50 starts at $36,700.

The G37 will continue unchanged mechanically while the 2014 Infiniti Q50 receives the same drive and powertrains as the outgoing G37, just tweaked with the latest findings with Infiniti’s R&D department.
