Information from GE Industrial Solutions

GE – Energy Management – Industrial Solutions, a GE heritage business building on a 130-year record of innovation, is leading the future of electrification with advanced distribution, protection and control technologies.

With regional activities spanning nearly a century, GE’s presence today comprises an array of established projects across the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey via strategic partnerships, investments and solutions. GE’s SecoGear metal clad switchgear is designed, assembled and tested to meet or exceed applicable IEC and GB standards. It is designed for the MV section of HV/MV and MV/MV substation and is suitable for applications in all major industries including transmission and distribution, oil and gas, automotive, processing plants, iron and steel mills, mining, commercial buildings, etc. It provides protection for all types of applications: cable, overhead lines, motors, capacitors, transformers, busbar sections, etc. This switchgear is fully IEC certified at the KEMA and IPH test labs to IEC 62771-100 and 62771-200.

Arc release system

When developing modern medium voltage switchgear, personnel safety must take priority. This is why the SecoGear switchgear has been designed and tested to withstand an internal arc due to a short-circuit current of the same current level as the maximum short time withstand level. All high voltage primary compartments are provided with pressure relief flaps located on the topside of the switchgear to evacuate pressure to the outside of the room guaranteeing personnel safety.

Wave Cast coil transformers

The advanced design of the winding assembly of Wave Cast transformers  establishes superior performance to meet today’s exacting needs.

The key features of the winding assembly

High and low voltage windings are vacuum cast in metal molds as separate concentric cylinders. High voltage windings are wound using strip foil technology. Multiple layers of polyimide film (180° system) provide turn insulation. Individual coil sections are wound directly onto the HV winding form and then connected in series. Molds are assembled around the completed high voltage coils and placed in a vacuum chamber where they are pre-heated under high vacuum to remove trapped moisture. A special mixture of epoxy resin and quartz powder flows into the mold through an opening in the molding assembly. Resulting in a reliable winding capable of withstanding high electrical stress. Low voltage windings use sheet conductor construction. A fiberglass mesh provides support for the inside of the winding. Start and finish lead bars are TIG welded to the sheet conductor. Low voltage windings are also vacuum cast in a metal mold using the same technique as the high voltage windings.

Safety

The combination of SEN Plus and the new EntelliGuard air circuit breaker excel in terms of safety – both for personnel as well as system protection. The switchboard has been independently tested to IEC 61439. With a short-circuit fault withstand rating up to 100 kA the system is equipped to deal with large faults. To ensure the highest operator protection additional tests have been performed, verifying the resistance against arc flash events.

Wide choice of protective equipment

As a manufacturer of various types of protective equipment, GE offers a complete choice of  system control, including:

Miniature, moulded case and air circuit breakers

Fuses and switch disconnectors

Variable speed drives and contactors

Intelligent motor management solutions

Communication and control increasingly forms part of a system – data exchange via Profibus or Modbus is available for most components, to ensure a homogeneous setup.

Environmental considerations

The care of the environment in which we live and work plays an increasingly important place in the considerations for the purchase of electrical equipment. SEN Plus has taken this into account through every aspect of its design. Environmental impact can be managed while operating SEN Plus by using the various accessories which can improve energy efficiency. The company offers range of software to obtain high efficiency while using such products.

Manufacturing process

The manufacturing plants are certified to ISO 14001 eliminating waste and packaging. Six Sigma and ISO 9001 ensure that waste is eliminated through highest efficiency in processing and design.
