Kenai Peninsula Borough School District requires aSchool PsychologistSalary: DOE JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a minimum of a Master�s Degree and must have or be eligible to obtain a current Alaska Certificate with endorsement in School Psychology Ed Specialist or Doctoral level training preferred Current certification as a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) or eligible to receive the NCSP preferred The Master�s degree with appropriate credential represents the minimum qualifications in training Good communication skills, problem solving skills and interpersonal skills requiredMust be computer literateJOB DESCRIPTION: It is the goal of school psychologists within the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District to prevent and treat educational and behavioral problems by identifying children between the ages of 3 and 21 with special needs Must consult with teachers and staff members in developing, implementing and evaluating the effectiveness of specific behavioral or educational interventions and school programs Collaborate as a member of school-based teams that may include: intervention, evaluation, IEP, Section 504 accommodation plans, and critical incident Assist schools in times of crisis as a member of school-based critical incident response teams Conduct applied educational research Provide in-service training for parents, teachers, and administrators Must be competent in the administration and interpretation of various standardized psycho-educational instruments Demonstrate expertise in the use of standardized and alternative assessment techniques that may include curriculum-based assessment measures; informal reading, writing, and mathematics methods; observation techniques; behavior rating scales; and projective testing techniquesAnalyze, integrate, and report psychological and educational information about child behavior and assist in the development of goals and objectives for Individual Education Plans Must be knowledgeable of Federal, State and District regulations and policies including the Individual�s with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504, and various pupil intervention systems within the district and local schools Deliver a program of individual and group counseling including social skills training and parent training for students deemed in need of such services Plan and manage a program of school psychological services including scheduling daily services to assigned buildings, managing timelines, and reacting to emergency situations Offer leadership in the continual development of the school district�s special education program Follow recognized standards of professional practice & state and local codes of ethics for school psychologistsLanguage Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents and the general public.Mathematical Skills:Ability to work with and apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situationsReasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formOther Skills and Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policiesPhysical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbssuch as boxes of books and AV/VCR carts Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
