To be Launched in the first week of June 2014, the Tbilisi Transformational Leadership Forum (TTLF) is a 5-day lecture series that is hosted By the Georgian Institute of Strategic Studies (GISS) in Tbilisi, Georgia and is supported by the International Visegrad Fund.

GISS will have 6 partner organizations participating in the forum: Foreign Policy Association of Moldova, EUROPEUM Institute of European Policy (Czech Republic), the Polish Institute of International Affairs, the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs, the Slovak Atlantic Commission, and Institute of Political Education (Ukraine).

The program will bring together a group of 20 practitioners (young leaders) in law, politics, academia, government, private enterprise, civil society, and international development from the Eastern Partnership (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Armenia and Belarus) and Visegrad 4 (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) countries.

This program provides a unique forum for emerging leaders to connect, exchange experiences, and obtain practical training to advance their knowledge and skill set. Guest speakers from foundations, think tanks, government, businesses, and international organizations will provide a practitioners viewpoint on important issues.

The lectures will offer insight into the origination, implementation and results of reforms related to EU integration as well as political, social, institutional, defense and economic transformations that took place or continue to take place in the Eastern Partnership and V4 countries. In addition, the program will offer lectures on the nexus of political, security and, economic factors influencing the regions under consideration.

The second phase of the project will bring program participants from the Eastern Partnership countries to one of V4 countries to interact with local opinion makers and get a firsthand exposure to the transformations the V4 countries went through (pre and post EU membership dynamics). This year the second phase of the project will involve a trip to Bratislava, Slovakia.

The program will help create a network of leaders (alumni). The gained knowledge and understanding of accomplished successful reforms and transformations will help inspire positive change in participants’ countries. Selected fellows should be available for the duration of the program.

Eligibility

This program is aimed at practitioners (young leaders) with demonstrated leadership achievements and interest in transformational leadership. Applicants can be working as policy-makers, government employees, academics, business professionals, civil society and media representatives. In their present capacity, applicants should play or have a demonstrated potential to play important roles in their country’s political, economic, and social development.

Fluency in English is an important prerequisite for participation in the program. It is expected that each fellow have a solid command of written and spoken English to fully benefit and participate in the program as lectures/sessions will be held in English and there will be no English translation provided.

Selection Criteria

1. Candidates must be practitioners (young leaders) with demonstrated leadership achievements. In their present capacity, applicants should play or have a demonstrated potential to play important roles in their country’s political, economic, and social development.  We do not accept candidates who are in the midst of full-time university degree programs. This is not an academic fellowship but meant for practitioners only.

2. Candidates must be from and currently reside in one of the following countries: Ukraine, Moldova, Azerbaijan Belarus, Georgia, Armenia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary. Candidates residing outside their home country due to war or conflict may be granted exceptions.

3. Candidates must be at least 25 and no more than 35 years old when they apply for the fellowship.

4. Candidates must have a solid command of English.

Costs

Program will cover fellows’ travel and accommodation costs for the duration of the program.

Application

All applicants are required to submit the full-length application and to support the form with two letters of recommendations. Application submission deadline is April 5, 2014. Selection Committee results will be announced on April 15, 2014.
