Description

The Melbourne International Fee Remission Scholarship (MIFRS) is awarded to international students wishing to undertake graduate research degree studies at the University of Melbourne. MIFRSs are funded by the University with each faculty having a limited number to award. Each year the University of Melbourne offers about 150 MIFRSs.

Scholarship

The MIFRS covers full tuition costs, but not overseas student health care.

The fee remission scholarships (MIFRS) do not provide students with a living allowance. However the University often awards a Melbourne International Research Scholarship (MIRS) to MIFRS recipients that provides a living allowance of $24,653 per annum, relocation grant of $3,000 who are moving from overseas to study at the University of Melbourne, thesis allowance of up to $420 for masters by research and up to $840 for PhD and other doctorate by research candidates, plus paid sick, maternity and parenting leave. .

Please click on the following link for the conditions relating to the MIFRS, which includes information about duration of awards; commencement requirements etc.

Eligibility

To be considered for a MIFRS, applicants need to apply for scholarship and candidature in a graduate research degree course (eg. masters by research, PhD or other research doctorate) at the University of Melbourne. Further information concerning the eligibility criteria can be found in the conditions.

These scholarships are only available to candidates who are neither Australian nor New Zealand citizens or Australian permanent residents.

Application

International applicants are considered for the scholarships listed below once their application is supported by their Faculty. Applicants must apply for admission using the candidature and scholarship application available HERE. Applicants who submit a complete application for admission and scholarship by

You may also want to read this overview of graduate research opportunities.

You may need to identify a potential supervisor (some graduate schools manage this process for applicants). You will work under the guidance of a supervisor throughout the duration of your research degree.

It is essential to read and understand the specific entry requirements and application documentation required by your prospective Faculty or Graduate School. Applicants to the University of Melbourne use the same form to apply for all graduate research degrees and to make a scholarship application.
