Deadline: 2 March 2014
Open to: young leaders from the fields of international relations, defence, security, journalism, international business, NGO, and academia.
Venue: 14-16 May 2014 in Bratislava, Slovakia
Description
Global power shifts, NATO's military capabilities, questions of privacy and cyber security in the wake of the NSA spying scandals, Putin's fight for legitimacy, the rise of euroscepticism and new EU members' performance will be at the centre stage of GLOBSEC 2014, the largest foreign policy and security conference in Central Europe.
The ninth annual GLOBSEC Forum, scheduled to take place between14-16 May in Bratislava, Slovakia, will explore, among other foreign policy and security issues, changes in the 21st century power balance, ability and political will of NATO member states to intervene and the consequences of the latest spying allegations.
GLOBSEC has grown into what US veteran analyst Zbigniew Brzezinski called a "global operation", annually attracting over 800 participants from more than 60 countries.
Taking place shortly prior to the European Union's parliamentary elections and NATO's Summit, GLOBSEC 2014, organized by the Slovak Atlantic Commission, will offer to policy-makers and stakeholders from all four corners of the globe an opportunity to discuss regional as well as global maters.
"GLOBSEC sets the gold standard," said Damon Wilson of the Atlantic Council of the United States, "the Slovak Atlantic Commission has built it into a major platform to generate ideas and shape policy not only in Slovakia but also in Central Europe and increasingly in the transatlantic community."
GLOBSEC 2014 will be an excellent opportunity for launching a broader Visegrad prime ministerial initiative, led by prime ministers of Slovakia and Hungary. Meanwhile, the Central Europe's chiefs of defence will discuss possibilities of moving forward on the V4 defence cooperation trajectory following on the EU's 2013 CSDP Summit and building up the groundwork ahead of the upcoming NATO Summit.
GLOBSEC 2014 will continue to build on its nine-year tradition and deploy traditional panel formats as well as keynote speeches and GLOBSEC chats, night owl sessions, break-out dinners and a plethora of side events and bilateral meetings.
On 13 - 16 May 2014, Bratislava will yet again become the hub of security and foreign policy-making as top government, military and diplomatic officials as well as business and NGO leaders will gather for the 9th annual GLOBSEC 2014 Bratislava Global Security Forum.
