Listen here: Pitchfork Music Festival Preview: Sunday
Pitchfork is another day closer, and to calm your anxiety, we have a brief guide of the artists you absolutely need to see on Saturday.
Let us know who you’re looking forward to seeing down below in the comments.
SUNDAY
1:00 – Blue Stage – DJ Rashad
Hometown hero, DJ Rashad, is Chicago’s bridge to the world of juke and step. He’s doing very innovative things in very specific genres, which has resulted in some incredible tracks. Start your day at the Blue Stage with Rashad.
3:20 – Red Stage – El-P
El-P is a hip-hop producer and rapper who combines wild beats and adventurous production with old-school style. His flow is hard, intelligent and very agressive. There are plenty of excellent hip-hop artists at Pitchfork this year, but none of them have a track record like El-P.
5:15 – Blue Stage – Lil B
Cool off after El-P’s set with some West coast hip-hop from the only Based God. Swag swag.
6:15 – Green Stage – Toro y Moi
Originally known as part of a group of “bedroom producers” who seemed to gain some noteriety around the same time, Toro y Moi has evolved far past chillwave into his own brand of elecronic-infused funk (imagine young Stevie Wonder with a laptop). Recent releases and live sets have seen the once solo Chaz Bundick adopt a full-band to fully realize his sound.
7:25 – Red Stage – MIA
MIA constantly brings grand shifts to her music which reverberate through whole genres. An incredibly powerful songwriter and producer, her live set will hopefully contain a preview of new material to come.
8:45 – Blue Stage – TNGHT
TNGHT is the duo of Hudson Mohawke and Lunice - incredible artists whose work together is rewriting and bending electronic music today. Individually, they employ sounds from trap, old school hip-hop, soul, funk, and future bass music. Together, their sound is an aggressive combination of all of those things. “Higher Ground”, a standout track from their debut EP, is manically harsh and aggressive, yet instinctively appealing. Anticipate a hugely energetic performance and something equally energetic and raw as a response from their audience.
