In the first half of 2016, there have been 25 recorded homicides. Here are the details around each of those deaths.
Abdikadir Mohamed, 25
Jan. 7
Victim: Abdikadir Mohamed, 25
Location: 111 Avenue and 93 Street
Following a New Year’s Day shooting outside a hookah bar in downtown Edmonton, Abdikadir Mohamed became the first homicide victim of 2016 when he died in hospital of gunshot injuries several days later. There have been no arrests in connection with the shooting. Mohamed’s father spoke at a Edmonton Police Commission meeting in May, saying he was frustrated with how the investigation was being handled.
David Gordon Fleming
Jan. 7
Victim: David Gordon Fleming, 28
Location: 11420 134 Ave.
David Fleming was shot dead inside a northwest Edmonton home. The father of four was dead when police arrived in response to a weapons complaint. The case is under review by the Crown, but police initially said they were searching for a vintage black Thunderbird stolen from the home around the time Fleming’s body was discovered.
Derek Garnham
Jan. 14
Victim: Derek Alexander Garnham, 32
Location: 11915 34 St.
Police found Derek Garnham shot to death inside a fourth-floor suite in the Alexander Plaza apartment building in northeast Edmonton. Garnham had roots in Ontario and Nova Scotia, where friends and family are still waiting for answers surrounding his death. No one has been arrested.
Jan. 24
Victim: Alex John Sinclair, 53
Location: 119 Avenue and 80 Street
Police have also made no arrests in the stabbing death of Alex Sinclair. Sinclair was found inside a vehicle with obvious signs of trauma. He later died of his injuries in hospital. At the time, police asked for the public’s help in locating a white man dressed in dark clothing who was seen in the area around the time Sinclair was discovered.

Feb. 21
Victim: Darren Douglas Sinner, 41
Location: 104 Avenue and 101 Street
Darren Sinner was shot after a fight broke out outside the Baccarat Casino at 12:30 a.m. on a Sunday. Bystanders attempted first aid on Sinner. He died of his injuries in hospital. Police hoped to speak with the people who helped Sinner before paramedics arrived. No arrests have been made.

Feb. 21
Victim: William John Patterson, 37
Location: Chappelle Drive
William Patterson was found alive, but wounded at a residence in southwest Edmonton, only hours after police responded to the downtown shooting that killed Sinner. Patterson was taken to hospital where he later died. An autopsy determined he also died as a result of gunshot wounds. No one has been arrested in what turned out to be the second homicide that day.

Victim: Irfan Ahmed Qureshi, 37
Location: 4914 213 Street
Irfan Qureshi was one of two people found shot to death in a southwest Edmonton home in late March. Qureshi had a history with the criminal justice system, and had previously faced drug trafficking and weapons charges. His family issued a statement in the days following his death, saying Qureshi would be greatly missed by his loved ones.

March 23
Victim: Suzanne Marie Tran, 27
Location: 4914 213 Street
Suzanne Tran was the other victim in the double homicide that began a streak of six killings in less than a week. Tran and Qureshi’s bodies were discovered inside a southwest duplex by a Realtor who entered with the intent to show the property to potential buyers. The duplex, owned by Naz Qureshi, was listed online for sale about a week prior to the murders.
Jeremy Randall Nattress, 36, was found stabbed to death inside a suite at the TraveLodge Edmonton East hotel on March 26, 2016.
March 26
Victim: Jeremy Randall Nattress, 36
Location: 3414 118 Ave.
Jeremy Nattress was found stabbed to death in a room at Travelodge Edmonton East on the Saturday morning of Easter weekend. One month later, police announced that Zafar Nigmatov, 25, was charged with second-degree murder and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose in connection with the death. Nigmatov was already in custody on unrelated charges when the second-degree charge was laid. The men knew each other.
March 27
Victim: Bruce Peter MacDonald, 50
Location: 129 Avenue and 58 Street
Two teenagers were charged with second-degree murder and robbery in connection with the stabbing death of Bruce MacDonald. In the early hours of Easter Sunday, MacDonald was found in critical condition near the Belvedere LRT station. He was transported to hospital by ambulance, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The two young women charged, aged 16 and 17, cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

March 27
Victim: Amin Mohammed Abdullahi, 30
Location: 8111 105 Street
Amin Mohammed Abdullahi was killed after a fight escalated outside Tribute Lounge, a bar near Whyte Avenue. His younger brother, Bilal, was also shot and injured in the altercation. Police issued a Canada-wide warrant for suspect, Arman Dhillon, 21, who turned himself in at the downtown police headquarters on April 5, accompanied by a lawyer. Dhillon is facing 21 charges, including first-degree murder and attempted murder.

March 28
Victim: Lisa Kristine Randhawa, 42
Location: 11455 132 Street
On Easter Monday morning, police were called to an apartment near Westmount Shopping Centre. Lisa Randhawa‘s body was discovered inside. An autopsy determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma. No one has been arrested in connection with this case. Randhawa’s killing was the sixth in five days to be ruled a homicide.
Adrian Stanley Redcrow, 42, is Edmonton’s 14th homicide of 2016.
April 8
Victim: Adrian Stanley Redcrow, 42
Location: 116 Avenue and 97 Street
Adrian Redcrow’s body was discovered by a passerby in an alley north of downtown, near Alberta Avenue. An autopsy later determined that the father of four had died of stab wounds. At the time of Redcrow’s death, police were hopeful any possible witnesses would come forward, but there have been no arrests made in the case so far.
Brad MacDonald, 37, of Nova Scotia, was found dead in a grassy area near Stony Plain Road and Winterburn Road on Sunday, April 10.
April 10
Victim: Brad Charles MacDonald, 37
Location: 215 Street and Stony Plain Road
Brad MacDonald was discovered dead in a grassy area not far from the 215 Street traffic ramp. Police said he had blood on his hands and obvious signs of trauma. An autopsy later determined the Nova Scotia man’s cause of death to be blunt force trauma. At the time, police said tire tracks in the grass where the body was found were being examined. Charges have yet to be laid.
April 16
Victim: Kelly Dean Thompson, 34
Location: 137 Street and 115 Avenue
Kelly Dean Thompson died following brutal beating with baseball bats on a west Edmonton street. Witnesses described seeing a man running from a group of assailants who eventually caught up with him and then viciously attacked him with bats. The group of four or five hooded suspects were then seen jumping into a white SUV and speeding away. Emergency responders rushed Thompson to hospital where he later died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head. No arrests have been made in connection to his death.
Nicole Leeanne Cooney, 30
April 18
Victim: Nicole Leeanne Cooney, 30
Location: 117 Avenue and 128 Street
Nicole Cooney died after being shot in a neighbourhood north of downtown. Police were called to investigate a suspicious death around 12:30 a.m. and then also responded to a weapons complaint that was resolved about 5:30 a.m. Lenny Lavalee, 32, had been charged with first-degree murder.
Awet Ghebre, 23, was reported missing in June 2015.

Victim: Awet Mehari Ghebre, 23
Location: 34 Street and 257 Avenue
Awet Mehari Ghebre‘s remains were recovered near the north edge of city limits March 21. Ghebre was reported missing by his family on June 17, 2015. Though his death was ruled a homicide on April 22, neither a cause nor date of death has been released. No arrests have been made.

April 19
Victim: Blair William Schmidt, 30
Location: 10625 122 Street
Police discovered a dead man in a burned-out suite in a central Edmonton apartment building. Two days later, police confirmed Blair William Schmidt‘s identity. He died from a gunshot. Police also said the fire was being investigated as part of an arson. No arrests have been made.

April 20
Victim: Nikita Lee Healy, 26
Location: 110 Avenue and 84 Street
Just one day after the discovery of Schmidt’s body, Nikita Lee Healy was also found dead as a result of a gunshot wound in a suite in a central Edmonton apartment building. Following the issuing of a Canada-wide warrant for a suspect in Healy’s death, police arrested a man near 124 Street and 116 Avenue on June 2. The suspect is alleged to have been drinking alcohol in some bushes when police arrested him. Wacey Dillon Boudreau, 22, has had 36 charges laid against him, including first-degree murder, forcible confinement and attempted robbery.
May 3
Victim: Sabrina Papin, 27
Location: 127 Avenue and 120 Street
Two men have been charged in the shooting death of Sabrina Papin, who arrived at hospital May 3 suffering from gunshot wounds. He died in hospital. A 31-year-old man who went to hospital with Papin was also treated for gunshot injuries. Chad Neville Boysis, 29, was charged May 6 with second-degree murder. In late May, a second suspect was arrested by RCMP in southern Alberta. Brian Joseph Boysis, 34, is also charged with second-degree murder in connection to Papin’s death.
May 5
Victim: Robert Paul Loyer, 46
Location: 106 Avenue and 96 Street
Loyer was found bleeding on the street just before 1 a.m.. Police said there were reports of six to seven people fleeing the area just before officers arrived. Attempts were made to revive Loyer, but he died at the scene from blunt force trauma. No arrests have been made.

May 19
Victim: Louis De Sousa Sa, 61
Location: 82 Street and 123 Avenue
Louis De Sousa Sa was found dead in his lower level apartment. He died as a result of trauma to his upper body. Days later police arrested a woman who they said lived with De Sousa Sa. Malory Lajimodiere, 28, was charged with second-degree murder and possession of a weapon with a dangerous purpose.
Edmonton police identified Gherezghiher (Gary) Yemane, 63, as the 23rd homicide victim of 2016.
May 27
Victim: Gherezghiher (Gary) Yemane, 63
Location: 69 Street and 165 Avenue
Gherezghiher (Gary) Yemane, a nurse at Misericordia Community Hospital, was out for an evening stroll when he was gunned down in a residential neighbourhood in northeast Edmonton. He was found lying on a sidewalk with gunshot wounds. He died at the scene. No one has been arrested.
Armando Cosmea-Aspillaga, 38, died Friday June 17, 2016. Edmonton police charged his father-in-law Roberto Bobles with second-degree murder.
June 17
Victim: Armando Cosmea-Aspillaga, 38
Location: 53 Avenue and Whitemud Road
Armando Cosmea-Aspillaga, described as a “peacemaker” by friends, died during a domestic dispute. Police say a cause of death is yet to be confirmed, but an autopsy determined Cosmea-Aspillaga sustained stab wounds during the incident. His father-in-law, Roberto Robles, 73, has been charged with second-degree murder and possession of an offensive weapon.
Ryan Jimmo
June 26
Victim: Ryan Paul Jimmo, 34
Location: 82 Avenue and 101 Street
A well-known mixed martial arts fighter, Ryan Paul Jimmo died after a hit and run on Whyte Avenue. Police said Jimmo struck after he got out of his vehicle and became involved in a verbal altercation with the occupants of a truck. Police say that as Jimmo walked back to his own vehicle, the other truck accelerated, struck him and then fled. After a public call for tips, police announced three days later that Anthony Getschel, 23, had been charged with second-degree murder, along with other charges. Jordan Wagner, 21, was charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder.
