ED MAP is helping Hocking College develop a content strategy that combats national trends. Pilots set groundwork to enhance student outcomes by reducing educational expenses, assuring students acquire required course materials and enhancing technology proficiencies.

Nelsonville, OH, May 30, 2013 – Hocking College, a two-year college providing nearly 5,000 students a unique, innovative, and quality education in a supportive experience-based learning environment, has partnered with ED MAP, the leading provider of course materials management services, to launch two sequential pilot programs introducing the use of digital course materials and resource fees that include providing students with their required course materials in a digital format.

The first pilot launched this month involving approximately 400 students and eight courses enrolled in the college’s Transfer Module, a series of courses that prepare students to obtain a bachelor’s degree. Students registered for any of these eight courses paid a course resource fee upfront with tuition and gained quick access to their books without having to wait until after the start of classes for their financial aid overage checks to be released. Students visited an ED MAP-powered online Hocking College bookstore to finalize their course materials order. If they accepted the default eTextbook, they gained immediate access to it. If, however, they preferred a print version, they paid only the difference in cost between the two versions. (As eTextbooks cost less than the print versions, students accepting the default digital option stretched their financial aid.)

“Working with ED MAP to develop a new process to provide affordable course materials to our students will help us assure that we have quality educational product in the classroom to support our students’ endeavors,” Dr. Carl Bridges, Provost/Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, said.

According to ED MAP Vice President of Client Services Sarah Riddlebarger, “We are excited to have this opportunity to help Hocking College help their students. One of the best parts of this project has been the opportunity to work with so many different stakeholders to come up with the strategic vision for the project, and to provide them with training and other resources to support that vision, the faculty involved, and their students. We look forward to reviewing ‘lessons learned’ from the pilots. Ideally, we’ll continue working with Hocking College to apply those to a broader solution.”
