Hello and welcome to issue #1415 of Edi's Weekend Wave.
I started to change all my passwords and I have a lot because I use unique passwords for all accounts. Did you change your passwords?  Before you start to change your passwords I recommend to read Heartbleed bug: What you need to know (FAQ) over at cnet.
I wanted to post a review on Thursday but I was far too tired.
I'm longing for my free days from 17th to 22nd of April.
This will be a shorter issue of the Weekend Wave as my brain feels like a desert.

The Lighthouse
Despite my battery is running low, I found time for reading. The result shows two books finished, one book continued and one book started. "Consuming" which means in this case reading is a lot easier then write a review or a post.

I finished

- Arcanum (digital 2013) [Amazon Kindle ASIN: B00DI7HKHS] by Simon Morden
I'm really, really impressed.

- Dragonfly Warrior (digital, December 2013) [ASIN: B00HCQAUCS] by Jay Noel
I finished the book in two sessions. Well executed steampunk novel.

I'm

- 64 pages in Memories of Ice (pb, 2006; first published in 2000) [ISBN-13: 978-0765348807] by Steven Erikson
A small progress. This is no book to devour before you fall asleep as you one miss too much.

- 81 pages in The Violent Century (pb, April 2014) [ISBN-13: 978-1444762891] by Lavie Tidhar.
I received the copy today. I just wanted to take a first look and stopped after 81 pages because I had to do something at home. I admire the story and the style.

No progress

- 241 pages in the Amelia Peabody's Murder Mystery Omnibus (digital, pb, 2012) [Kindle Edition ASIN: B007PRZJAW] by Elizabeth Peters.

- 98 pages in The Invention of Murder: How the Victorians Revelled in Death and Detection and Created Modern Crime (digital 2011) [ Kindle Edition ASIN: B004FPYX72] by Judith Flanders.

- 172 pages in the Emperor of Thorns (pb, August 2013) [ISBN-13: 978-0007439058] by Mark Lawrence,

Enjoy your weekend ....

Books

Dear readers, I'm the one to tell you about books - only books? What about novellas and other stuff? My name is Bona. I scour shelves, shops and the net for books. If you call me a book whore I would not gainsay you. But be aware I have my own, sometimes elusive taste.

New books on my shelf/reader or when one book leads to another

This week I received just a paperback copy of The Violent Century (pb, April 2014) [ISBN-13: 978-1444762891] by Lavie Tidhar.

"They'd never meant to be heroes.

For seventy years they'd guarded the British Empire. Oblivion and Fogg, inseparable at first, bound together by a shared fate. Until a night in Berlin, in the aftermath of the Second World War, and a secret that tore them apart.

But there must always be an account... and the past has a habit of catching up to the present.

Recalled to the Retirement Bureau from which no one can retire, Fogg and Oblivion must face up to a past of terrible war and unacknowledged heroism, a life of dusty corridors and secret rooms; of furtive meetings and blood-stained fields, to answer one last, impossible question:

What makes a hero?" [Source]

As you could read in the previous section, the book captured me. It happens not that often that I start reading a book five minutes after I received it. So far I can say I admire story and style.

Moriarty
Thanks a lot to Gavreads for sharing the information about the next novel by Anthony Horowitz.
After The House of Silk the author returns to the world of Sherlock Holmes.

MORIARTY

Does anyone believe what happened at the Reichenbach Falls?

"Sherlock Holmes is dead.

Days after Holmes and his arch-enemy Moriarty fall to their doom at the Reichenbach Falls, Pinkerton agent Frederick Chase arrives in Europe from New York. The death of Moriarty has created a poisonous vacuum which has been swiftly filled by a fiendish new criminal mastermind who has risen to take his place.

Ably assisted by Inspector Athelney Jones of Scotland Yard, a devoted student of Holmes' methods of investigation and deduction, Frederick Chase must forge a path through the darkest corners of the capital to shine light on this shadowy figure, a man much feared but seldom seen, a man determined to engulf London in a tide of murder and menace.

Author of the global bestseller The House of Silk, Anthony Horowitz once more breathes life into the world created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. With pitch-perfect characterisation and breath-taking pace, Horowitz weaves a relentlessly thrilling tale which teases and delights by the turn of each page.

Moriarty will be published on Thursday 23rd October 2014." [Source]
I read and liked The House of Silk. Moriarty made it directly to my books to buy list.

No more today, see you next week ......

I 'm the Keeper of the minutes. But I don't mind when you call me Kotm. No, no. I don't explain to you how to pronounce.
