Well this was the vision of the Trustees and staff at The Pershore Riverside Centre – and it’s just been delivered. The boat was craned into Avon Navigation Trust yard this week where it will be set up over the winter ready for Easter.

Designed by the Wheelyboat trust, this is the 4th generation of design and it is now a superb boat that can take up to 10 people, or several wheelchairs, on river trips. It will be available next season to families to take a quick trip on the River Avon and also to groups who work with people with disabilities.

Alex Mellor, the Centre Development Manager said ‘this is such an awesome project. Boating on our local river is like seeing our beautiful countryside from a whole new angle, and now we can offer this to anyone and everyone regardless of their mobility’.

The Riverside Centre already works with young people with disabilities. Archery has been a great success working with places like the Vale School and the centre is also looking to modify their canoe equipment to expand these sessions. The new Wheelyboat opens this up so no one will be left behind.

There is already a lot of interest for bookings so if you know a family, individual or group that would be interested get in touch over the winter ready for next season. More info at www.wheelyboats.org and www.pershoreriversidecentre.org
