James Ostler, Director and Owner of Positive Environmental Ltd will take up his role at The British Pest Control Association.

James has been actively engaged with the BPCA since launching his company in 2010; he has been a Board member since 2013, including 2 years as Chair of the Servicing Committee.

James said : “I am delighted that my colleagues have the confidence in me to fulfil the Vice Presidents’ role and look forward to the exciting challenges ahead.  There is a strong drive to increase professionalism in the industry; my experience as a Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner will certainly help to move this forward.”

The British Pest Control Association is the leading UK trade association representing those organisations with a professional interest in the eradication of public health pests.  A not-for-profit organisation, it acts in the interests of its members and on behalf of the pest management industry within the UK.

Paul Rodman, President of The Association said : “The provision of pest control services to a professional standard can be an area which is overlooked, yet the economies of inadequate pest control can be catastrophic.  The BPCA places great importance on promoting the highest standards of professionalism within the industry.  It is the role of the Association to highlight the risks of inadequate control, to offer guidance on what to look for when searching for a pest control contractor, provide general pest advice and guidance documentation, and finally how to select an appropriate pest control professional.”

He concluded : “We are absolutely delighted to welcome James as Vice President of the BPCA; he has a wealth of experience and a real enthusiasm to make a difference.”

Positive Environmental – which operates throughout Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, West Midlands and into neighbouring areas such as South Shropshire and Mid Wales – targets a host of sectors which need to comply with strict environmental risk practices, including housing associations, food manufacturers, food retailers, food importers, distributors and storage companies, catering businesses, animal care and animal feed organisations, health care providers, the agricultural industry, pet products, facilities management and drainage companies.

James has more than 30 years experience in the environmental risk industry; he was a Managing Director of National Britannia Ltd, one of the UK’s most highly regarded risk management consultancies, with a £50million turnover.  Previous roles include Head of the Analytical Division of Hinton and Higgs, a high profile health, safety and environmental monitoring consultancy.  James has also worked in the public sector as a senior Environmental Health Officer.

James is also a member of The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health as well as a Chartered Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, an organisation that he was previously a Trustee of; in 2007, he was awarded the IOSH President’s Distinguished Service Certificate.
