The courses cover every aspect of the game from passing, running and tackling to kicking, line outs and tactical awareness, all in a controlled environment by fully qualified Wasps community coaches.

Around 200 youngsters attended a couple of courses when they were trialled in the area last summer, and due to their popularity, a comprehensive programme has now been scheduled for this year.

The first course kicks off at Camp Hill RFC in Solihull between Wednesday, March 30 and Friday, April 1. The courses will also take place at Barker Butts RFC, Stratford RFC, Sutton Coldfield RFC, Kenilworth RFC, Broadstreet RFC, Harris Academy and Solihull School.

Ian Isham, Community Manager at Wasps, said: “These courses are a great way to get kids active during the holidays, develop their rugby knowledge and teach them life skills at the same time.

“In the past we’ve had youngsters attend who have never played rugby before, right up to teenagers who are looking for expert advice on developing certain areas of their game.

“Through various drills and games, we try to incorporate values such as team work, respect, discipline and sportsmanship.”

Former Wasps player and England international Paul Sackey is a Wasps community ambassador and one of the Coachclass coaches, and believes the programme will be a roaring success.

Paul added: “We’ve been working with local clubs and schools in the local community for over a year now on similar coaching sessions, and their feedback to the club has been amazing.

“I love to see the satisfaction that the children get from being part of the courses, and it’s also a great opportunity for me to keep an eye out to see what sporting talent is on offer at the same time.”

Some of the children taking part in the March Coachclass will have a chance to see plenty of talent on offer at the Ricoh Arena on Sunday, April 3 when Wasps take on Northampton Saints (kick off 3pm) in the Aviva Premiership, in a game that has been dubbed as The Stinger, the club’s flagship fixture of the season.

On match day, the Ricoh Arena will be transformed into a yellow wonderland in an attempt to raise awareness and valuable funds for Marie Curie, the UK’s leading charity for people living with any terminal illness and their families.

Wasps will be hosting a range of fundraising activities on match day to make a lasting difference to the charity, which provides care and support to people across the UK, and supporters of both clubs are being encouraged to wear yellow.
