Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to assist students with their academic and personal development in collaboration with the Manager of Career and Counseling Services; the Academic Dean; Preparatory Program Director, faculty and families. The Counselor will accomplish this goal through individual and group counseling, facilitating workshops, creating awareness activities and working on individual cases. In addition the Counselor will work with the Health Care Provider (Nurse) in facilitating assistance for students with special needs and medical conditions.

* Conduct individual counseling sessions with students and maintain appropriate records;

* Facilitate group counseling sessions effective communication, transition to university;

* Identify and request appropriate counseling materials;

* Work with faculty to identify students who may require and benefit from counseling;

* Design and facilitate workshops to enhance student development. Topics such as leadership; team building; conflict resolution; goal setting and time management; effective communication and transition to university should be included;

* Teach the transition to University (SDAS) course;

* Act as student advocate for students with special needs and medical conditions with Nurse and faculty;

* Participate in and contribute to meetings, career fairs and all other programs related to student affairs, student success and student development such as: (student orientation; health and wellness activities; and any other relevant initiatives);

* Provide assessments/tests when required;

* Contribute to mentor programs and other similar programs

* Contribute to the development of the Student Career and Counseling Service Handbook.

* Accepts other appropriate duties as assigned.

* Spend approximately 80% of time on Abu Dhabi campus and 20% at Sharjah campus.

Required Skills

* MS in Counseling Psychology; Educational Counseling, Guidance, Social Work, Guidance & Counseling or related field.

* Certificates or experience in administering & interpreting assessments tools.

* A minimum of five (5) years experience in Counseling, Counselor Education, Guidance and Counseling in a post secondary institution is required.

* Should have some teaching experience.
