Opting for a ‘quasi-elopement’, Lissa Jaine and Tim travelled across the ditch to New Zealand with their family and closest friends for an intimate wedding for 14 guests, at the picturesque Edgewater Hotel situated on the stunning Lake Wanaka. Today we are sharing some completely spectacular images of their special day as captured by talented photographer, Jen at Alpine Image Co.

The couple chose New Zealand for their special day because they had previously attended a wedding there and it was the best wedding they had ever been to! Tim’s was also celebrating his 30th birthday and they thought that it would be a perfect way to share both events with their nearest and dearest.

We really love the way Lissa and Tim made an extra special effort to include so many meaningful elements in their day that were chosen from their own home. “Our Wedding theme was mid-century style, and vintage odds and sods. This theme allowed us to source decorative elements we already had on hand from our own home, and on loan from our parents and grandparents. We definitely mixed eras by including items and styling from the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and the 70’s.”

“We chose Edgewater Hotel because they have extensive grounds on the shorefront of beautiful Lake Wanaka, and they were more than happy to cater to our small number. It was also convenient and stress-free to have our ceremony and reception in the same venue and to have our guest’s accommodation within stumbling distance of the reception!”

Lissa Jaine wore an original 1950’s tea length dress in a wonderfully soft and non-traditional rich cream tone that she found at Forever Vintage. She completed her retro look with a cute gold cardigan also from Forever Vintage, and a 60’s inspired resin bow hair clip from Vielkas on Etsy.

The bride put a lot of thought into each of her bridesmaid’s colourful vintage-style dresses, as she wanted them to have something individual suited to them that could be reused time and time again.

Lissa Jaine carefully selected each piece of her outfit to ensure that they weren’t overly ‘bridal’ so that she could re-wear them – we love a thrifty and sustainably minded bride!  “The gold-sequined cardigan has since been incorporated into my wardrobe, and I plan to dye my wedding frock (once I settle on a colour!) so I can wear it again and again.”

The couple also decided to hire the groomsmen’s outfits as Tim didn’t want to buy a suit that would be barely worn. He had always wanted to get married while wearing his family tartan, so the boys “purchased only their white shirts and opted to hire the rest from Sydney Kilt Hire, this included jackets, vests, kilts, sporrans, socks and shoes!”

Lissa’s bouquet by Wanaka Wedding Flowers was superbly ‘big, wild and cascading’ including flowers from the florist’s own garden as well as some that were locally sourced. It featured a stunning mix of foliage, including eucalyptus, ferns, lamb’s ear, ivy and even some heads of kale!

It was important to the bride and groom that there were as many eco-friendly elements included in their day as possible. It all began with the bride’s beautiful and ethically sourced engagement ring from Ethical Jewellery Australia. “It was handmade in Australia from recycled platinum, it has an ethically sourced Australian Argyle champagne Diamond and small white ethically sourced Argyle diamonds.”

“We are an eco-concious couple who try to be conscious of wastage and our carbon footprint in everything we do.” Lissa Jaine even has her own blog dedicated entirely to vintage and recycled fashion!

Instead of having an extravagant cake, this couple had an amazing idea, and instead settled on having some yummy locally sourced fudge! It doubled as their cake and wedding favours tied together in humble treasure boxes, which successfully eliminated the usual excess from having a large wedding cake.

“Our love of our close family were reflected in the size of the wedding, our love of nature reflected in the location, our celtic roots reflected in our ceremony proceedings and the boy’s kilts, our love of mid-century design reflected in our decorations and of course the bride and bridesmaids’ dresses.”

We hope you’ve enjoyed Lissa Jaine & Tim’s real eco wedding story and the stunning images by Alpine Image Co as much as we have enjoyed sharing them!
