STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The diabetes educator is a health care professional who has a basic core of knowledge and skill in the biological and social sciences, communication and counseling, and education, and who has experience in the care of patients with diabetes. The role is multidimensional, with boundaries for accountability that interfaces with other members of the health care team. The primary area of responsibility for diabetes educators is the education of patients, their families, and appropriate support systems about diabetes self-management and related issues, education of other health care professionals who do not specialize in diabetes management, and the public.
Current CA RN license required. BS degree required..
Experienced healthcare professional with strong background in Diabetes education.
Certification by the National Certification Board of Diabetes Educators required..
Teaching experience in both clinical and classroom settings.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Participation in professional organizations.
Demonstrate competency in providing care appropriate to adolescent, adult and older adult patient population.
