Every Monday we bring you the Southern Living Hot List, a roundup of the five latest and greatest things to hit the South. Consider it your weekly update on our region’s most buzzworthy food, culture, and style news.
1. Get ready to read. YALLFest, the Charleston Young Adult Book Festival, returns Nov. 7 and 8. The festival brings 60 of the world’s most popular Young Adult authors, 37 New York Times best-sellers, and 22 panels, presentations, and talks to the historic Upper King Street. Panels and signings are free and open to the public. The opening and closing keynotes and the YA Smackdown are ticketed.
2. Catch a couple of flicks. The four-day Fairhope Film Festival brings award-winning films to coastal Alabama. Attendees will be able to view feature films, documentaries, and shorts from international and American filmmakers. The festival is also partnering with Fairhope Brewing Company to create “After Hours”–two nights of fright and horror on the silver screen with a special Hayride Ale to accompany. Tickets start at $55.

3. Raise the roof. NOLA Brewing will host Raise the Roof for Roots on Nov. 7 to celebrate The Roots of Music’s first six years. The Roots of Music, a New Orleans-based non-profit, provides music education and academic support to local youth with the aim of preserving the musical and cultural heritage of the city. Raise the Roof for Roots will include live entertainment, food, craft beers, and a cocktail bar. Tickets are $85 per person.
4. Celebrate Florida’s fruit. The Jensen Beach Pineapple Festival celebrates the Florida community’s pineapple heritage with a weekend full of concerts, arts, performers, and a Bahamian Market. Entering its 26th year, the festival will include musical performances by Cole Swindell, the Atlanta Rhythm Section, the Pointer Sisters, and more. Tickets start at $20 for general admission.

5. Try a new brew. Lucky Town Brewing, a new microbrewery in Jackson, Mississippi, opens its doors Nov. 7, kicking off the weekend-long celebration with brewery tours and tastings. Find your new favorite brew while enjoying live music and food from local food trucks. The celebration will continue Saturday, Nov. 8, as well. Tours will begin at the top of each hour, and the $10 admission comes with a complimentary tasting glass and six beer samples.
5.5. And one more! Square Trade Goods Co. releases two new seasonal scents on Nov. 7. The two new options, Winter Pine and Bayberry, have a 45-hour burn time and come in a reusable whiskey glass. Candles are available on the website until Christmas.
