1. A new coffee shop. The brand-new Radio Coffee & Beer swung open their doors last week in Austin, Texas. The beer bar, coffee shop, and live music venue features some local craft favorites and food from some of Austin’s beloved food vendors. Musician, and Austin native Jack Wilson is the man behind the brand. The name is a nod to his passion for music. Expect goods from East Side Pies, Texas French Bread, and People’s Pharmacy. The taco truck Veracruz All Natural will be permanently parked for Radio guests.
2. Keep Austin Weird. Another Austin note—yes, the city has that much going on—this Saturday, June 28, gather in the South’s self-proclaimed weirdest city for a fest like none other. Keep Austin Weird is in its 12th year and this one will surely go down in the record books. Join thousands as they descend upon the lawn of The Long Center from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. for good eats, live music, and plenty of unique entertainment. Sport your wackiest costume for a chance at an entire year’s worth of free Amy’s Ice Cream.
3. A craft beer dinner. Lockeland Table is celebrating Nashville Craft Beer Week with an exclusive five-course craft beer dinner this Monday, June 23. Chef Hal Holden-Bache has carefully created a master menu paired with suds from Tennessee Brew Works. Think crab cakes with Old Bay mayo with “Southern Wit” Belgian-style white ale. Tonight’s event goes for $75 per person and is an excellent way to usher in Nashville’s Craft Beer Week, June 23-29.
4. Americana artwork. Savannah-based artist Katherine Sandoz is premiering her work at Savannah College of Art and Design’s Pinnacle Gallery on Friday, June 27 with an exhibit reception. She is most notably inspired by Savannah and Coastal Georgia but a trip to Tahoe inspired her latest collection, “Tahoe Hybrids.” Most of the works were created on canvas and are reminiscent of summer road trips, lakeside life, and Americana. The exhibit and the reception are free to the public; the June 27 reception runs from 6-8 p.m.
5. A peach-themed festival. Flock to Warehouse Row in Chattanooga this weekend (June 28)—with sturdy shopping bags in tow—for the Crafted by Southern Hands festival. The event celebrates regionally crafted products and the storied traditions that live behind them. This event is just the first of many more to come (it’s part of a summer event series) and will feature The Peach Truck and Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream, both hailing from Music City. The peach-themed day will feature fresh peaches and cooling ice cream, as well as other local food vendors, live music, and crafts and games for the kids.
