This post is brought to you by Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant at BSC.

It’s no secret that Germany holds some of the most tantalizing foods in Europe. Bratwursts, pork knuckles, flavourful potato salads, dark breads, and more. In Southern Germany, Bavarian cuisine reigns supreme. Typically a rustic, rural fare, this cuisine has been getting more and more attention globally in recent years, and it is these foods that feature heavily on the menu at Brotzeit, one of the best places in Kuala Lumpur to go for delicious, satisfying German food.

Brotzeit at Bangsar Shopping Centre

Their newest outlet is at Bangsar Shopping Centre and offers a cosier alternative to the popular big-mall branches at Mid Valley and Sunway Pyramid. But though the ambiance is certainly different, the food is every bit as delectable, still under the control of Executive Chef Helmut Murmann. We began our feast with a basket of fresh breads and a trio of savoury house-made spreads: pork liver pâté, salmon tartare, and a mouthwatering Bavarian bacon spread. There’s also a nice crème cheese spread to choose from, as well.

Platters

One thing Brotzeit does better than just about anybody is platters. You know the type: when this impressive platter arrives at your table, everyone gasps and whips out their camera phones. Well, few restaurants deliver platters that inspire as much photosnapping as Brotzeit. These things just look incredible. Ours featured a centrepiece of crispy pork knuckle along with roasted pork slices, thick-cut bacon, potato salad, Bavarian soft pretzels, pickles, sauerkraut, a selection of German mustards, and more. The pork knuckle was a complete knock-out, perfectly cooked to preserve tender, juicy meat under a crusty layer of extra-crispy crackling. Paired with pints of Paulaner beer from the tap, this was a meal fit for a king.

Mains

Brotzeit offers incredible pizzas, too. A particular favourite is the Fladen Speck, or Bacon Pizza. A crispy square-shaped crust smothered with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and bacon, accented with onions, small tomatoes, and chillies. Ask for a bottle of Tabasco to really highlight this pizza! Mains are no less scrumptious, with such offerings as beef goulash, salmon fillet, potato dumplings and spinach, chicken schnitzel, escalope of pork or chicken, and of course, a whole range of tempting German sausage plates, too.

Happy Hour

Happy hour is a great time to discover the latest Brotzeit outlet, too. With no fewer than four different German draught beers (and even more by the bottle) starting at just RM14 for a half pint during happy hour, and “buy one, free one” for premium spirits and wines by the glass, this is a fine place to relax after work with a fine German beer and anything from Chef Helmut’s bar bites or sides menu if you’re feeling peckish… try the buttered spätzle, jumbo Bavarian pretzel, crispy fried chicken fillets, or a bowl of Kartoffelhappen – that’s spicy potato wedges for the non-German speakers! It’s the best of Bavaria, so pull up a chair and guten appetit!
