We will cut a ribbon on Friday, Nov. 6, at noon, Glory, Guns & Ammo.  Business located at 148 CR 4211 just east of town off on Hwy 11. Come out and welcome them to town.

The Camp County affiliate of Habitat for Humanity has “rebuilt” its organization with God’s help and the support of the community, to help build a better Camp County for all.  The local board of directors recently announced that the affiliate is now ready to pursue applications from prospective partner families for the first new home constructed through the program in several years.  The Family Selection Committee of the local affiliate will be holding two meetings for anyone interested in pursuing their goal of home ownership through Habitat for Humanity of Camp County.  Attendees will hear about Habitat’s programs and our application process.  Application forms will be available at the meeting.   Habitat for Humanity of Camp County, TX is an Equal Opportunity lender.  We will be accepting applications through November 30th for the new home program. The Home Ownership Application Orientation Meetings is Monday, November 9 at 2:00 pm and Thursday, November 12 at 6:00 pm at the Douglass Alumni Community Center on Terry Street in Pittsburg.  Light refreshments served.

Vapin-Haven, our new location in the Town & Country Center is rockin’!!  Grand Opening party is Saturday, November 14. We will have live music all day long beginning at noon. Entertainers will include Trinity Campbell, Keith Allen, and the Allen-Kilburn Project, and then Thom Leonard and the TBT Band will close us out. We will have free hot dogs, juice specials, and giveaways throughout the day. Bring your chairs or your tailgate and be ready for a great time!! Bring the kids

We have a lot going on at the Pittsburg Library! Storytime is every Thursday at 4:00 pm. We will have a special Holiday Storytime, December 12, so mark your calendars for that! GED classes are every Friday from 3:30-5:00 pm. sponsored by Burt & Nancy Marans Charitable Fund at East Texas Communities Foundation. ESL classes are every Saturday 10:00-11:30 am, sponsored by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation (2015), Coordinated by A Circle of Ten, Inc. The Pittsburg Library will be closed Wednesday, November 11, 2015, to observe Veterans Day. Please return your materials through the night deposit, renew online, or call (903)856-3302 to leave a message with your name, library number and title of the book to be renewed or reserved. Our newest CASA Volunteers, Amanda Carroll, George Davis and Joan Davis, were sworn in by the Honorable Virginia Schnarr on October 22, 2015, in Morris County.  In Camp County, Glenda Schmidt was sworn in by the Honorable Virginia Schnarr on October 28, 2015.

The Chamber of Commerce is making plans for the annual Christmas parade through downtown Pittsburg. The parade is Saturday, Dec. 5 at 1:00 pm. This year’s theme is “A Story Book Christmas.” First, second, and third place floats and decorated vehicles are awarded prizes. The entry fee is $25 for floats and $10 for vehicles. If you don’t want your entry judged, there is no entry fee. A completed application is required for each entry. Cash Prizes are made possible by our sponsors, Brookshire’s, Guaranty Bank & Trust, ETEX Crude, First National Bank, Luminant and, Tommy Lee Insurance.

“This year, we have added a new event to encourage people to stay in Pittsburg all day and do their Christmas shopping.”  The event, titled “Christmas in Pittsburg,” will include a Business Open House.

“We are asking Pittsburg businesses to make this a special day for their customers by staying open late, decking their stores with holiday decor and offering special discounts and refreshments.”
