Parents, faculty and administrators were captivated by the first part of W.T. Clarke High School’s winter concert on Dec. 3, an event that showcased the wide scope and versatility of musical talent being developed in the East Meadow School District.

The program featured a variety of tunes performed by the jazz ensemble I, mixed chorus, chamber orchestra, wind ensemble and symphonic band.

The jazz ensemble set the tone for the evening with several musical numbers, including “I’m Beginning to See the Light” by Johnny Hodges and Duke Ellington.

The mixed chorus, directed by Robin Hall and accompanied by Sean Fitzpatrick, opened their set with an enthusiastic performance of “Viva La Musica!” by David L. Brunner, and finished with a traditional version of “Soon Ah Will Be Done.”

Directed by Adrianna Donovan, the chamber orchestra performed an impressive set of songs, including Bela Bartok’s “Rumanian Folk Dances” and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Fantasia on ‘Greensleeves.’”

The wind ensemble, directed by Kevin Scully, performed an enthralling version of “Americans We” by Henry Fillmore. The symphonic band, also directed by Mr. Scully, closed out the show with several exciting songs, including Samuel Hazo’s “Fantasy on a Japanese Folk Song” and Jack Stamp’s “Chorale and Toccata.”
