The Handmaiden is in the lead with six nominations…
The Asian Film Awards Academy has announced the nominations for 11th Asian Film Awards 2017. Out of 1,600 submissions which the Academy has received from 28 countries and regions, 73 nominations were made for awards from 34 films (12 countries). This year’s event is financially supported by Create Hong Kong and Film Development Fund. It will take place on 21 March at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
“The Asian Film Awards helped to bring the region’s major and iconic talents to Hong Kong and has given their work an international spotlight. This year, the Academy has developed various professional educational programs such as masterclasses, film festival visits for students, young professionals training programs and film roadshows around the globe. By doing so we help maintain Hong Kong’s role as one of the world centers for the creative industries. We are also delighted to bring the AFA back to Hong Kong in 2017 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong SAR.” said Dr. Wilfred Wong Ying-wai, GBS, JP, Chairmanof the AFA Academy and the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society.
Park Chan-wook’s The Handmaiden is in the lead with six nominations for Best Supporting Actress (Moon So-ri), Best Newcomer (Kim Tae-ri), Best Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Costume Design and Best Production Design. Second place goes to Feng Xiaogang’s I Am Not Madame Bovary and Yeon Sang-ho’s Train to Busan with five nominations each. Na Hong-jin’s The Wailing, Lee Sang-il’s Rage and Zhang Jiajia’s See You Tomorrow with three nominations each.
